So I successfully had the correct person put on my booking after I selected my mother instead of my wife (since the app lists your fellow passengers in a different order to the website and I just ticked the name below mine, user error!)
The BA operator said she could not change the exec club number but I would be able to later online. I can’t. So we now have my mothers APIS against my wife’s correct exec number
I googled and found that I could change via the Finnair website. After 10 minutes BA showed the update but APIS was still wrong. I manually updated this but seems odd that you can have exec club number and APIS of the wrong person on the system.
I have politely requested BA fix this anomaly but won’t be holding my breath.
Changing the BAEC number won’t update the API.
What is important is the name on the ticket. If your wife is flying but your mum’s name is on the ticket she will (probably) not be allowed to travel even if you have put your wife’s API into the system.
If BAEC name doesn’t match the name on the ticket then the worst case is just that nobody earns any avios and TPs.
If the name on ticket is wrong you should have cancelled under the 24 hour cooling off period. Although if you took the last redemption availability then it may not necessarily return after cancelling.
