Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Booking BA with Avios

  • 5 posts

I priced up a week in Barbados for 3 adults in a 4 star all inclusive resort for a 7 night stay in August.
    Price was around £4,500.
I mentioned that I had 300,000 avios and was told if I use them all up I could save around £1,300.

Thats less than 0.5p per avios.

What’s the best way round this to enhance the amount I get for avios

The best option would be to use Avios for the flights as a standard redemption and pay cash for the hotel.

If the maths doesn’t work here (ie the hotel is very pricey for direct booking but BA Holidays is getting it cheaply) then your best bet is to pay cash and save your Avios for something better later.

Even turning them into Nectar points gets you 0.66p per Avios, just to show how a bad a deal you are being offered.

I assume that’s going economy? You could use the Avios for 3 return premium economy seats and book the hotel separately? You could get 2 of you in CW for 300k. Subject to Avios seat availability of course. Redeeming Avios against economy is often not worth it but can depend on equivalent cash prices. If you’re not getting at least 1p per Avios value it probably isn’t worth it, you can get better value elsewhere, even converting to nectar. Price up all available options and pick what best suits you. I assume you don’t have any companion or upgrade vouchers?
