Booking China Southern through BA/protecting missed connection?

I have a British Airways flight back to the UK from Shanghai, but I need to get to Shanghai from Seoul. I’m planning on booking a flight the day before from Seoul to Shanghai, but I’m a little nervous if anything goes wrong and I miss the flight the next day.

British Airways’ website doesn’t seem to show any flights from Seoul to Shanghai when searching, even though I read that they have an agreement with China Southern, who fly this route.

Is there any way I can combine a China Southern flight with my existing booking, or cover myself in case of problems with the flight the day before?

2 – insurance but that would depend on the reason why you missed the BA flight and also if they cover missing a separaly booked flight

report online suggest the code share is only on some routes between UK and China, so your route is not included.
