Forums Frequent flyer programs Virgin Flying Club Booking KLM flights through VS website

    A simple question:

Why can I never find flights for partners through Virgin’s website?

    Example: LHR – LIN.

“We’re sorry but we do not fly this route.”

If I use the app, I get the ability to book using points, but, again, no paid for flights

I thought the same recently with Delta flights.

Odd that you can search for points flights (and buy them successfully)
… But if you search for a cash ticket, VS do not sell you them.

Would have thought there would have been some partnering agreement.

It seems to be the same with BA and some IB flights.

Why would partner cash flights be available? Unless there is a marketing agreement for cash sales or codeshare agreements, cash sales are usually not available.

@BBbetter My point was that you’d think there would be an agreement – given that VS does not fly the route themselves, but their ‘partner’ airline and 49% shareholder does! Seems like a missed opportunity for both parties, as I might then go and book with a competitor due to not appearing on the VS site.

And it is particularly odd for the consumer when the same flights are there in the database for miles.

There’s all sorts of legal and financial reasons why not unless they’ve agreed a codeshare within the frameworks of their alliiances. That’s why travel agents exist 🙂

It’s the same for all airlines. Massive availabilty for United miles on intra europe and intra africa for instance but no cash sales.

BA sells IB cash fares (e.g.) MAD-SJO but not MAD-MAN. Does that mean one is a codeshare but not the other?

Not necessarily. BA might have a marketing agreement.
