Forums Payment cards American Express Booking my return Companion Voucher flight

  • 1 post

Hi! I have managed to book LHR-SYD next January, can’t wait.

I actually have another Companion Voucher. I saw on the article about this that, rather than calling, I could book outbound on Avios and then call and get the avios half refunded (by getting them to attach the return to the original CVed booking).

So: does anyone know if I can use my spare CV to book the return flight as a single, then call up, get the flights merged into one and get the CV returned to me?!

I don’t have quite enough Avios to do it the other way…. Thanks!

Probably worth calling BA in advance and asking (and recording the call).

However you book this the bookings will not and never will be merged. You will always have two separate bookings – one for the outbound and one for the inbound. Don’t even ask.

BA will however refund the 50% of the avios.

I think booking the inbound leg using your other CV will complicate the issue because I don’t believe there is a way to extract the CV from the booking whilst leaving the flights intact. Basically there is a risk of losing the flights entirely.

How short on avios are you? I’d seriously consider just buying them as in the end it will be a lot simpler for BA agent to deal with refunding avios that it is trying to extract the voucher.

You can use your other 241 to book the return, but you’re effectively wasting half of each voucher by doing that. Have you read the long thread on booking the return at midnight as soon as it’s released, by calling BA? It’s not my own preferred method, but many people here have had success doing it this way. If you don’t have a way to get the extra avios you need this is about your only other option here.

Wouldn’t second half of each 241 still be usable (LHR-SYD) and (SYD-LHR) within 12 months of each flight departing of course respecting the open jaw rules?
