I am trying to book a flight to Brisbane in February, on the BA site it offered me a flight on Qatar Airways for 45k Avios and £253. I went to the Qatar webs site and it offered me the same flight for 90,000 plus £556. At first I thought I had forgotten to uncheck the return option, but I had asked one way.
Am I doing something wrong or is this a quirk of Avios?
Economy or business?
Business – one-way is 90k, so Qatar is correct and ba.com is being screwy. Book it and hope they never spot it.
Economy – one-way is 45k so ba.com is correct. I suspect that Qatar is treating it as ‘double Avios’ and that you ignored the ‘X2’ green marker in the box when you selected the flight. This is an IT error by BA because if Qatar is charging double Avios then in theory all standard redemptions have gone so BA shouldn’t be showing anything.
On the same thread – Qatar show flights available to book one day further that BA (Nov 8th 2023) and required Avios are double. I wonder if this will drop in the next few days. 7th Nov seats are original cost on Qatar.
If lower Avios seats are booked on BA (shows double points on Qatar) as per explanation above, will they go through or be amended
or cancelled. I want to fly on 8th Nov next year so plan to book tomorrow.
Any thoughts.
Nothing will get cancelled. I recently booked a Qatar Avios ticket for my wife on ba.com which qatarairways.com claimed wasn’t available, it was ticketed and flown just fine.
The flight I am looking at on Qatar website to New Zealand business return (2 people) is pricing correctly at 360K avios but BA is showing the same Qatar flight incorrectly at 452K avios. Taxes are about the same. If I ring BA to book will they adjust to the correct pricing or will I need to book on Qatar website.
Will be booking for my parents who are in my BA household account so through it would be better to book via BA but obviously not with that avios difference.
