Hi there, looking for some pointers – have never bothered collecting Avios before, and normally just lose them when they expire. Silly me!
DH and I now have Avios of approx 35k each with Qatar/BA plus 42k with Amex.
I’m looking to book Qatar for March/April 2026: Edinburgh to Singapore, then return Sydney to Edinburgh, which is classed as a multi trip, rather than return.
We both seem to have enough (75,000) for the EDI-SIN leg, so happy to pay for the return in £££. But I have no idea how to do this on either the Qatar or BA website. And how do you book for two people, when you have separate Privelige Club / Executive Club accounts? How do I get all the points into one place (if necessary)?
From everything I’ve read online, I need to pounce on the reward flights as soon as they are released, but how do you do that when the outbound and return are four weeks apart?
Absolutely baffled!
The SYD-EDI return would be 90,000 Avios each, which we don’t have at the moment. However, seem to be able to do a 6x boost for 108,00 Avios for approx £1200+ each. This looks tempting, but the boost points may be an expensive mistake if the availabilty is not there when the booking window opens. Also, if I’ve already spent my Avios on outbound flight, will I still be able to boost them?
Quite a few things there.
You can’t pool your Avios. You can use one account to book multiple people, but not multiple accounts to book one (or more) flight(s).
If you have enough Avios, you would book as separate one ways – it doesn’t need to be return. The return can therefore be a cash one-way (on any carrier, not just Qatar) if necessary.
Pretty sure you can only boost up to 3x your recent transactions, and only those of the last 30 days. But, if you can make it work, you can wait until you find the rewards seats before boosting – they post immediately.
Thank you, I will arrange for our individual Amex points to be transferred to Qatar for both Privelige Club accounts. then we will both have >75k for the outbound.
Have just checked the Qatar website, and we can 6x boost our earned points within 90 days of earning them. So it might be a bit tight, but too much of a gamble to pay £1.2k now if the return reward flights don’t come out til 360 days before.
Will just need to play the waiting game!
