I’m looking at a long haul (LHR-Perth) Avios booking and hoping to do it business class with a companion voucher for 2 travellers. Been building up points for a few years and never used them so hoping (🤞) I can make it happen
I’ve read numerous articles (eg https://www.headforpoints.com/2024/02/01/when-does-british-airways-release-avios-reward-flights-3/) that say to do this and have a higher chance of getting seats, you need to book your outbound first 355 days in advance. Then when seats become available on your return date, book them separately, making a change to your original booking.
But how does this actually work?
If I’m using Avios & a companion voucher and I book the outbound flight with them – how do I then make a change to add return flights at a later date and get the benefit of the companion voucher on the return? Surely the companion voucher has already been used and it’s not available to be used for the return flight.
Any help greatly appreciated as this will be my first ever Avios booking and I’m hoping for the best result 🤞
You are changing the original booking, the voucher is not used until one leg is flown.
Any reason you decided to create a separate post ??
You need to read the dedicated thread on this for lots of detail on the best way to get the seats you’re after.
BA don’t fly to Perth though, so you’ll need to fly somewhere they (or IB/EI) do then get a connection.
These are the 2 sources of info you need.

Not sure what you mean by “create a separate post”??
It means why have you not used the very long thread on this very theme which I posted a link to!
