If I apply for the Business Platinum Card through a referral link, will I still get the same welcome bonus (no restrictions) as when applying directly?
From what I understand – the restriction does apply when you go through a referral link – i.e you cannot have held a MR enrolled card in the last 13 months to be eligible for the welcome bonus

And, as noted, using a referral is potentially worse because Amex is saying that the old bonus rules still apply.
Oh no that’s terrible news and not something I had picked up on.
Got my wife to refer me for the card (she got 9000 point bonus) and received the card 2 days ago – started using it yesterday assuming if I spent £10000 in the first 3 months then I would get 80000 MR points.
I already have Amex personal platinum so don’t really need the business platinum as well.
Looks like I will need to cancel but presumably will need to pay at least 1 month of the £650 fee.Because it is 8 points per £1 up to £10k (and not 80k for spending £10k) you should already know if its working OK or not. Either you’re getting 8 points per £1 spent so far, or just 1 point.
If its 8 points you’re fine, carry on spending.

As a data point I referred my partner for the Amex platinum business card. I’ve received the 8x bonus as being the referrer and the first transaction has cleared on my partner’s card and has earned the extra 7 points labelled as platinum business points accelerator. So YMMV but it referring worked for me.

Yes all seems fine – I have got the 8x points and my wife has her referral bonus added when she logs in to Amex online.
