Hi, I’ve recently received notification I can claim my cabin upgrade voucher but wanted to hold off claiming it until nearer the 12 month anniversary so I can get a further 24 months to use it. I’m on Avios Plus card currently but want to switch to the basic card and avoid the monthly fee. Question is, will I still be able to claim the voucher after I switch or do I need to claim before that?
Many thanks
Martin
You will get it on the anniversary of the card (that or the 7000 avios).
So if you want to downgrade, as you get close to the anniversary date, select the voucher, check you got it, then ask for the downgrade.
You can select and receive the voucher any time between hitting the target spend and the next anniversary date (according to the app, anyway). So it’s not clear whether downgrading before selecting would have any impact on that. But if it all went wrong, I can imagine it would be a nightmare trying to get Barclays to sort it out!
What will happen though, @Newbie, is that if you select the voucher, then downgrade, you immediately start earning another voucher, which might be useful for you.
Yeah I received one on plus and just got one for the basic. I think the 7k is nowhere near worth it comparing it against the upgrade voucher.
Agree, even “wasting” one for CE to AGP at half term next month has saved me about £600!
Many thanks for the replies – much appreciated
Can anyone tell me where you choose the “yearly spend reward” of the upgrade voucher or 7,000 Avios in the app? I’ve had the email saying I have qualified, but can’t find the option anywhere.
There’s a section that’s not loading on the front page under the four blue buttons and above the FSCS guarantee. Should it be there?
Click on your balance and then on View your Avios. Then under your spend tracker click on Explore Bonus Rewards – the option should show there.
ANOTHER QUESTION ABOUT UPGRADE VOUCHERS
I downgraded to avios 6 months ago after getting one 10k spend (Plus), can I get another upgrade for the 20k spend (classic)?
Yes, you should be able to see your progress towards it in the app.
Yep thought so few K off now.
Feel there is 0 point in keeping Plus card when u can do this. Unless you spend 4k+ on that card every month.
This is interesting. I want to downgrade from Avios Plus. The app shows my Yearly spending reward is at £8,773 but it hasn’t updated for ages now. The target date is 20/06/24.
From what has been said in this topic, I should be able to redeem the voucher when I hit the target and not have to wait until June next year to do so? I’ve just tried to ask in the app’s chat (which is AWFUL) and they told me it has to wait for the anniversary before the spend updates. I suspect that is totally incorrect?
Yes, incorrect, you have the option to choose from the date you trigger the voucher, and once you make the decision it goes into your BAEC account almost immediately.

Yes mine took only a day and 4 days earlier than the quoted timeline.

Thats it but lets not complain too loudly before they move the goalposts further apart and/or basic card can only upgrade Eco etc.
