Calling BA to add return leg companion flight

We have an outbound flight booked using a companion voucher and are looking to add the return leg now (355 days out). We don’t have enough Avios to just make the booking and then call up to refund 50%, so we need to do it via a call centre. Has anyone done this via the New York office at 1am recently. How long are the waiting times and any other advice to do this any other way?? Thanks in advance, Joe

The only option is to call if you don’t have enough avios for the return leg. There have been reports of US call centres refusing to do this recently though. Is it a destination where it’s vital to call at 1 am?
