Just as the title says really.
I’m a BAPP holder – as is my partner, we’ve both not help a gold for 3+ years.
we’d like a gold each for additional lounge passes and im aware we’re not able to get the signup bonus but can we benefit from referrals?
Can my partner refer me for gold, pocket 9k avios and then I do the same the other way (refer her for a gold)?
Yes, that should be fine.
You should wait for the Gold to arrive, and then see what the referral bonus on that card is, before referring your partner, as it could be higher than 9k avios. Mine is currently 12k MR, although I’ve hit the limit for the year. Even if your referral bonus is only 9k MR, I would still use the Gold as 9k MR is more valuable than 9k avios.
Lastly, you can each get an additional 3k MR by adding the other as a supplementary cardholder on your Golds. Don’t request it at the time of the application, and add them later using the link below:

If you haven’t done so already, you can also use that link to add each other as supplementary cardholders on your BAPP’s for 3k avios each.
Amazing, thank you!
Totally forgot about supplementary holders – I would’ve added at application without thinking!
eventually amex will block you from referrals and supplementary bonuses, so make hay whilst the sun shines
A friend reported to me not to have received two referral bonuses. Upon enquire apparently if the applicant does not qualify for the welcome bonus for that card, the person that sent them a referral does not get the bonus. I pretty sure this was not the case before as my friend also believe so, anyone disagree that this was not the case and/or has similar recent experience?

It may be a mistake, but it makes sense not to pay a referral for a customer not entitled to a SUB as you aren’t referring a new customer, which is the whole point of the process. While Amex is a bit desperate to keep the plates spinning, customer acquisition/retention costs in the UK have been running out of control to rather limited effect so maybe referrals are being restored to a common sense basis.

My OH referred me for BAPP two months ago. I was not eligible for the SUB but he did get the referral and I got 3K for adding him as a supplementary.
