Forums Hotel loyalty schemes IHG One Rewards Can Ambassador free night be stacked with suite upgrade voucher?

  • Crafty 158 posts

    Situation is as follows:
    1. I have an Ambassador free night (buy one weekend night, get one free) to use.
    2. I have a suite upgrade voucher (up to 5 nights to use).
    3. I have a pregnant wife and (currently) 2 kids.
    4. Time is running out on both vouchers and the pregnancy.

What I would like to do, if it’s possible, is book a stay somewhere nice (an IC in the UK, which doesn’t give many options – Edinburgh perhaps) that combines the Ambassador paid and free nights, with 2-3 other nights (either paid or preferably points), then be able to combine the whole lot to be upgraded via the suite voucher.

But it’s probably too good to be true. Could this be done?

If not… anyone have any other bright ideas to get good value out of the vouchers given the domestic situation? Many thanks.

The T&Cs say CSUs can’t be used with points or AMB voucher bookings currently.

Plus I’ve also not read of anyone having them applied to two separate bookings – which yours would be.

So I think you’d be restricted to a cash paid room to use the CSU.

Now what I have done is booked cash for 5 nights and then used the AMB cert to complete the rest of my stay. Applied the CSU to the cash stay then emailed the hotel asking if it would be possible to remain in the same room. In my case they said yes. Now whether that was because I’d stayed their previously a few times or just sensible for them because of housekeeping er. I don’t know but I think it likely helped.

In a second where I’d booked 5 nights cash and 2 on points they said yes but it would be $70 a night extra for the points nights. That was an IC I’d had no history with.

Both Hotels were US based ICs so a UK one may be different.

Try it on reward nights though, you might get lucky.

Thanks for the advice, I’ll work it through and see where we get to.

I think the T&C’s will allow the hotel to say ‘no’. I’d phone or email the IC Edinburgh saying what you would like and asking what they can suggest, though – I found them v helpful when I had questions (and they upgraded me to a nice – non-suite – room for free due to Ambassador).

For me one of the good things about that hotel is the spectacular views over the water from some rooms. I’d personally rather have a smaller room with a sofa overlooking the view than a suite without the view. YMMV, though, especially if the kids are travelling with you.
