We will be travelling to Canada (ex Dublin, in Business), and would appreciate some advice:
    – Any experience of Flair Airlines? We will fly Toronto to Calgary. Flair Airlines seem cheaper, then West Jet, then Air Canada. We are members of BA Exec Club and Virgin Atlantic – but I don’t see any earning opportunities for internal flights.
    – Is there a Canadian equivalent of EU261 if things go wrong?
    – We intend to take a “Via Rail” train from Montreal to Toronto (5hours; cheaper than flying). Again, any experience of this?
    Thanks.

Flair have very mixed reviews whereas West Jet are pretty reliable. If you have a few days after the Flair flight then fine, if you are relying on it to get somewhere then I’d pay the extra. There are protections but not as robust as in the UK/EU. Beyond that then you need to provide more details about what you are planning to do.

If there’s an option that works to fly with Porter I would recommend them. All of our inter-Canadian travel is done on Porter now as we’ve had so many cancellations/delays with AirCanada (rouge are the worst) and Flair.

Never taken the train but have driven the Montreal/Toronto road a few times and it’s very pleasant if you have time to stop off in Ottawa, and then down by Kingston and along the lake shore near the 1000 islands area.

Big yes to VIA Rail. We have taken Porter Airlines Toronto to Montreal and back, enjoyed the luxury, but VIA Rail was excellent service. There can be delays but usually not as bad as Amtrak. The queueing at Toronto Union is very North American, enormous lines in the concourse but everyone gets on OK. The meal service is very organised (we went Business) and the seat comfort is comparable to Eurostar and ICE First Class. We even stopped off in Kingston for the total eclipse of the sun, which was amazing. The app kept us up to date with any minor delays. Do ask if you have any other queries.
