Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Executive Club Cancel Platinum Plus – retain triggered 241 companion voucher?

  • rjenkins00 22 posts

I’ve got the platinum plus BA Amex card and just had the 241 voucher trigger and show in my BA Exec Club account.

If I cancel my BA Platinum Plus card when its due for renewal in Nov will it also cancel my voucher? Or will the voucher stay in my BA Exec Club account until the 2 year expiry is up? Intend to use Jan-Mar 2026.

    Thanks

    Ryan

The voucher will remain in your BA account.

Note that the T&Cs state that you need an Amex to pay the cash fee when redeeming the voucher, so take care not to get caught out by this.

BTW, it’s a ‘Premium’, rather than ‘Platinum’, card.

While Rob maintains you’ll keep the voucher, there was a flurry of users reporting the opposite last year and that BA had removed it from their account, so I’d exercise caution.

I can recall 2 posts about this and I don’t think they ever followed up with any further info when questioned! I would still love to know what went on with those …

Anyway, I cancelled my BAPP in June last year and didn’t lose the 241.

I think the wisest advice would be to downgrade to the free BA Amex rather than cancel altogether, just to be sure. That’s what I plan to do 🙂

Waste of a 24 mth fallow period imho. At least JDB will be pleased.

    1) I couldn’t be without Amex for 24 months! & 2) given OP’s lack of posts, I (perhaps wrongly) assumed they just didn’t want to pay the fee

I couldn’t give a monkey’s, but your ongoing support for those chancers, opportunists and the entitled who cost the vast majority of loyal cardholders so much, in so many ways, is noted. Congratulations!

The T+C used to say that you had to have the BAPP to use the voucher, and the customer service agents would tell you that you’d lose the voucher. That has all now changed – the T+C (as of last week) just say you need an Amex to pay, and the agent didn’t say anything about the voucher.

The T&C change to allow any Amex to be used changed over a year ago, not last week. The requirement to remain eligible for the promotion at the time of travel has not changed despite many revisions of the terms over the years. It remains in force. Please do not peddle such unhelpful misinformation. Amex agents continue to give the correct information.

I’m still cautious about the two forum posters whose vouchers were cancelled by BA after cancelling their BA Amex cards. Imagine the feeling!

I see monkey’s are very much given! 🎣

Sorry JDB, I was unclear – I meant that last week the T+C were still “an Amex card”, not that they changed last week.

The Amex agent did give me the correct information – it’s the first cancellation I’ve done where they didn’t tell me I’d lose the voucher – they just didn’t mention it at all, other than the cut and pasted T+C as above.
