Forums Payment cards Virgin Atlantic Card cancellation and points – last month

  • 307 posts

last year I opened the Reward+ card, first transaction was made early April and the annual fee added to my account on the April statement, about 24th.

Virgin wrote to me last week saying the annual fee for renewal will be added to my March (24th) statement. I intend cancelling the card. I’m working on the assumption that Virgin dont offer pro-rata refunds so I will need to cancel the card before my March statement.

Does this mean that any transactions after my February statement will not receive points, or will the outstanding points get sent over when I click the cancel card button.

Not exactly the same situation but may be a useful data point. Took the card out on 15th Feb ’24, annual fee charged on first statement date in March ’24. Received an email in January ’25 informing me the annual fee would be taken ‘in February’.

Submitted the request to downgrade on 6th Feb and received the email to say this was complete on 8th Feb. Transactions between 8th and 14th Feb only earnt points at the lower rate, so I lost a week at the higher rate out of caution. Virgin’s IT may have worked in my favour on the voucher front though…

Seems to be some confusion as to when your year starts; is it on acceptance, first usage, date fee charged ?

Given the time required to get the card to you it would be impossible to get 12 months of card usage for your £160 if the first case is correct. It seems to take a while to get initial fee charged so the third case would be generous

A vague email announcing the renewal charge “sometime in February” is ridiculously unhelpful

anyone with issues of points not posting? Mine are usually posted on the day of the statement, but its over over a week now and nothing has dropped into my Virgin Flying Club account yet
