Cathay flight cancelled but mysteriously rebooked

Cathay cancelled my March flight to Hong Kong . I received my Avios and taxes back from BA . I thought this was the end of the matter but received an email last week stating that my flight for June has been cancelled. Why would they refund my flight and then book me onto another random flight ? Has this happened to anyone here ?

Might have been a “ghost” sector put in the booking to keep it alive whilst the cancellation was processed
