Forums Payment cards Virgin Atlantic Change in card benefits

Just received this via email. Boingo was a great service, sad to see it go. Wonder what those ‘new card benefits’ might be.

We’re making changes to the Virgin Atlantic Reward+ Credit Card terms

We’re writing to let you know that our Boingo Wi-Fi service, a benefit of your Virgin Atlantic Reward+ Credit Card, will come to an end on 23rd March 2024. We just wanted to give you notice in case on-the-go WiFi is something you enjoy using so you have time to find an alternative.

Worry not, we’ll be announcing some new card benefits that we think you’ll like even more, so look out for future updates.

I’m not holding my breath for anything too exciting. The Boingo offer was great to begin with, but when it got watered down, it was less useful. Free WiFi on VS metal would be welcomed, I’d imagine.

They sent me this even though I closed my Virgin CC over 18 months ago. Poor admin.

Delta now give free wifi to all Skymiles members on a lot of routes. Wonder if Virgin will follow.

Just read this, I never used it and quite frankly didn’t care for the benefit. To me anything is better than nothing

I don’t think I even knew it was there!

It was technically a benefit from Mastercard, not from VAA. That benefit hasn’t changed (as far as I can see), so it looks like VS is opting out, more than being told that the benefit is closing: https://redeem.boingo.com/mcsi/standard-faqs/

I just looked at the Santander website and they are removing the benefit too:

“Access to 1 million Wi-Fi hotspots worldwide (This will be removed on 14 March 2024)”

Looks like the deal between Mastercard and Boingo has come to an end as I did a search and found that Swedbank has the same announcement but with a replacement benefit by Felxiroam:

“Please note that on 23 March 2024, the Boingo Wi-Fi service will be replaced by the Mastercard® Global Data Roaming by Flexiroam.”

    https://mastercard.flexiroam.com/

Doesn’t include in-flight wifi but instead a complimentary starter pack, global data plan and 15% discount. I used the inflight wifi benefit quite a lot on both Virgin and American Airlines flights so loosing this is a shame as I already have global roaming enabled through my Vodafone mobile phone plan.

Damn I only use Boingo when abroad i.e. about twice a year and was planning on using it on my trip starting 30th March – but they are cancelling on 23rd !
