Due to fly back to London from Changi in the next few days. Do you need to go through security to access shops etc? Flight is circa 11pm, so don’t want to get there too early if we can’t check our bags etc?
It depends what shops you want to go to. If you want to shop at Jewel (the big mall at Changi) you don’t need to check your bags in. There are some cool things to look at at Jewel too which cost nothing, which is always nice in Singapore. Some airlines permit bag check in at Jewel much earlier than normal airline check in desks – accurate information at https://mainlymiles.com/2022/11/21/changi-airport-expands-jewel-early-check-in-to-8-airlines/
Thanks Jen, flying BA so early check in doesn’t work for us. Anyone know how long before a flight we can drop bags? 3 hours like the UK?

I take it you’re not travelling in CW or have status?
When I flew last November in CW the check in desk was open even 5 hours before the flight. We checked bags T1 and then walked out through the terminal straight into the Jewel. Tons of things to see, shops and eateries. Highly recommended. It seems as though the locals go for a day out so well worth it.
Oh nice. Yes in CW, keen to make the most of the time there without being stuck waiting to check bags. Thanks for this!
You can check bags early (around 5 I think) as the desk opens for the Singapore-Sydney flight. As of now BA still aren’t participating in early check in unfortunately
Then you’ve either got the option of the Jewel or going through for a mini lounge crawl (Qatar/Qantas/BA)
We came back on BA12 last weekend in CW, and BA check-in opened at 17:10. Given we had a late 16:00 check-out from the Marriott, this worked well.
We then had supper and spend time in the fantastic Qatar lounge, which was much better than the BA lounges as I remember them from pre-Covid

Excellent! Another tip – there’s a section in the changi where you can reclaim using automated screens any tax you’ve paid as a visitor over a certain amount. My sister purchased some devices from Apple and with tax back got a great price 🙂
Can you use Qatar and Qantas lounge without status if travelling CW?

Yes we used the quantas lounge.

Can anyone provide some experience of time to pass through Changi when arriving and departing on different airlines/tickets.We are flying from Siem Reap on Singapore Airlines (cash flight) and departing on BA to LHR (Avios 241 flight), next January (Sun 19th).
My understanding is that we will be unable to check bags through and go through transit channels, so will have to collect our bags go through arrivals and then check in at BA and go through departures.
Does anyone have any experience of this and how long we should allow?
We depart to London at 23:05. We haven’t booked the Singapore flights yet and have two options, one arrives at 14:15 the other at 20:05.
Trying to decide if the later flight gives us enough time.Thanks.
Singapore Airlines in my experience will check through to other carriers so hopefully that’d be possible. You’d still need to stop by a transit desk airside (or the lounge if flying CW/F or you have status) to collect your boarding pass as they don’t issue them online.
If not then I believe the transit desk in T1 can call and have your bag retagged but I’ve no practical experience of this. Considering how smooth “DIY” is at Changi I’d probably go with that approach!
99% of the time 8pm is going to be fine. The risk is if anything goes wrong with the SQ flight then you’ve no alternative way to reach your BA flight and rebooking an Avios ticket would be likely impossible at that point (no changes within 24hrs of departure, highly unlikely there would be seats anyway)
Personally I’d go with the earlier flight – by the time you’ve landed and got your bags (if required) the BA check in will be open (opens around 4pm for the Sydney flight). So you could get your boarding passes and pop into the city for some satay or go for a walk along the East Coast park etc. Then head back to the airport for a shower and lounge crawl if applicable
We did the flight from Siem Reap on Singapore airlines a couple of months ago, we weren’t connecting at the time but I recall there was quite an abnormally long walk from getting off the plane to the baggage carousel, there was no wait for the bags though and going through immigration in Singapore is a breeze with the E passport gates. That said I think that flight lands in another terminal so you would then have to trek to that terminal for your BA flight which would be more time.
Could you turn it around in 3 hours? possibly but personally I wouldn’t risk it given you are giving yourself very little wiggle room for delays and if you miss your flight sue to Singapore airlines being delayed I don’t think BA have any obligation to put you on the next one. If it was me I’d get in earlier to avoid any potential stress.
Thanks for your responses. I will look into the possibility of Singapore checking bags through, but I think we will go with the earlier flight to avoid any potential stress.
We are CW on the Heathrow flight, so can always take advantage of the lounges.Jumping on this thread. I have heard that it is now possible to check in at 2.30pm for BA evening flights to London, either at the BA check-in desks or, if travelling in CW, at the SATS Premier lounge. Is anyone on here who has flown from SIN recently able to confirm this? I called BA and they had no idea. We are booked on the 23.30h flight to LHR so it would be handy to be able to check in our bags in the afternoon and then spend some time at the Jewel and lounges.

I flew back last week, travelling Club World on the BA12, and checked bags in at 2:30pm at the last desk in row 9. It is usually the last desk in row 10.

Great – thanks for confirming!
