Charged wrong Avios amount for LHR-SIN-SYD in J with BUV ?

Just managed to secure 2 x LHR-SIN-SYD in J using Barclays upgrade voucher, for 6/1/25. I found the availability at 1 second past midnight then rattled through the booking screens as quick as possible before someone else bagged them.

Unfortunately I didn’t notice that BA was charging me 230k Avios (plus £750) total. Shouldn’t this be 160k Avios i.e. 2 x the normal 80k Avios redemption cost one way in PE on BA metal? If so, is there a known glitch and how best to rectify ? Am hoping to resolve before 24 hour fee-free cooling off period expires.

(Actually heading to Auckland and – yes – I’m going to keep trying for QR J availability on flights to BNE/MEL/AKL which are QSuites A350 routes, as I know the experience is better and – if the above is the correct price for BA with a BUV, then QR is actually much cheaper as well !)

I’m an idiot: 6/1/25 is a peak date. Clear enough when I look at seatspy.

Looks like off peak started from 8th January last year, hopefully will be similar this year. Am I right in thinking no-one knows for certain if a date is off peak until 355 days before ?

Well done on scoring those seats! The price is actually the PE avios rate, as it’s an upgrade voucher, not a 241, though I think it may be one and the same on this route. Also don’t forget you only get the maximum avios option with the Barclays voucher.

BA does release a calendar showing peak and off peak dates, but usually several months into the year, which doesn’t help if you’re booking before then!

If you mean you’re hoping to cancel and rebook on QR, they only seem to be releasing double avios seats, or none at all in J at peak times, there are a couple of threads discussing this.

Thanks for the reply. I’m lucky enough to have enough avios to hold onto this redemption with BA and keep looking for flights with QR in the meantime or – more likely – exactly the same flights with BA but on an off peak date 🙂
