Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Charged wrong taxes and charges on BA reward booking

  • 5 posts

I booked reward flights for 2 PAX return last week from LHR-TBS, each quoted as having £81 to pay on top of Avios. Having made the booking, I got my e-ticket/receipt come through, showing £162 was paid. Having checked my credit card today, I’ve been charged only £2. Have contacted BA via their live chat, and the agent has confirmed that the £2 is correct, and sent me an updated e-ticket to reflect this, in which it says no taxes or fees are chargeable.

I’ve kept a transcript of the chat. I’m more than happy to just pay £2 if that’s all they want, but I’m concerned something’s going to go wrong with the booking now. Anyone else ever had this happen?

Have you checked which one is correct?
Regardless if you have a ticket number, you’ll be fine

Did you pick the most avios / lowest cash option? and in economy? That would explain the £2 actual charge for 2 people

Whatever figure gets shown on e-tickets is for BA use only and is not rellavant to you

Yes it was a full reward booking, in economy. I know shorter haul European flights usually only get charged at 50p each way, but this being somewhat longer, the lowest cash amount was much higher for this route. Maybe they’ve brought it into line with other Europe flights.

Again, very happy to pay £2. It’s just not what was quoted, and not what was shown as the payment amount on my first e-ticket. I’ve questioned it, they’ve said it’s fine, so I’ll consider it a done deal.

    IS TBS short-haul/RFS or medium?

Looks to be similar distance as CAI or TLV which I think BA class as medium-haul, even though they have CE.

@kevwuk – I think it’s either a mistake or it has changed. I travelled from TBS last month, shortly after the route began. Had a paid ticket but decided to come back earlier. There were lots of Avios tickets available and the minimum payment, I think, was around £50 for the single ticket plus Avios – that was for one person in economy without voucher. It worked out much better value at the time to buy a single ticket rather than use Avios. It’s a mid haul route so some food and complimentary drinks in economy. I read somewhere it’s the longest flight with CE – about five and a half hours!

I was curious so did a dummy booking and surcharges start around £40, one-way. I’d keep an eye on your booking in case BA has a change of heart and decides to muck around with it!

Well how many avios was it?
