Any recommendations for a good time to be allowed into the Cathay lounge in T3. Would like to visit but last time they said they were only accepting Cathay travellers.

Lunchtime / early afternoon. And probably mornings.

Cathay have daily flights from LHR at 12:20, 17:00, 18:20. 20:10, and 22:15

Helloe for Galleries south lounge. North was crazy busy. This is busy but manageable. Started with the champagne! off to vancouver for 2 weeks. Will do a report after the trip.

Good afternoon from Kuala Lumpur airport terminal 2, where Air Asia charge around £16 for every kilo of excess luggage packed by Mrs Aston.

@Aston100 You mean you don’t pack travel scales for your return journey? I’m disappointed in you 😉

I’ve never had an issue of being a kilo or two over with AK, I guess they have heard about O’Leary, starting to offer staff additional bonuses for spotting oversized/Weight luggage!

@davefl – That’s one of the first things I pack, but as the years go on, it gets harder to hold onto in excess of 20 kilos by a strap for a few seconds!
Unless there is an easier way I have not heard of.

I’ve noticed baggage weighing machines in a couple of places recently – the last one was the lobby in the HIX AGP where you could weigh your bag for a euro!

Well I’m usually good at this but it’s been a bit of a gruelling work week (gruelling that work has even been a thing, but that’s another story!). What’s the best value option here – I’m thinking the last 2 but I’m struggling with the numbers?!

    10000 Avios + £ 28.00
    8800 Avios + £ 43.00
    6400 Avios + £ 53.00
    4650 Avios + £ 63.00
    2800 Avios + £ 73.00
    1050 Avios + £ 88.00

Cash price is £179 for comparable benefits. TIA.

@NorthernLass – if you value the Avios at 1p, I agree the bottom two! But the bottom is better by £3.

Assuming 1p per Avios they are in order
    £128.00
    £131.00
    £117.00
    £109.50
    £101.00
    £98.50

So the last one is absolute best but both of the last two aren’t bad and all quite good compared to the cash price.

AirAsia copied Ryanair’s model when it was set up. They just lack an outspoken ceo and a funny Twitter team.

Thank you for confirming! IB has yet again cancelled a flight so I’m going to get a refund and rebook with avios via BA.

My Swissgear rucksack (other brands are available) functions as my personal under seat item. It’s never not fitted under a seat (even on planes like ATR72 and various 1+2 seat aircraft that fly in the US) Can carry well over 10Kg in comfort because it has nice padded straps.

If you need an additional 20Kg then pay for a second bag upfront or send the missus by air frieght 🙂

@davefl – The majority of my flights included hold luggage, so it’s a no brainer to indulge,
My wife is actually staying home on the next trip, so it’s a double positive!

TBH it looks like I’m going to have to take a backpack this time as opposed to lugging a case around Asia for 4 months!

Just on the lookout for one preferably with wheels, that will last the distance, as you move around a lot, and go off the beaten track on your trips, any recommendations?

Actually I misspoke, it was a Wenger not a SwissGear. I’ve been using this and the previous incarnation for about 18 years. Love the new “stand up” feature, the padded compartment fits a 13in Dell XPS with loads of room to spare and the only problem I had with this latest one is that a little of the stitching came undone which I’ve repaired. I had really challenged it though with a load of stained glass sheets, plus laptop and toiletries.

I’m thinking of a 7 day trip to Norway in late summer and this is all I would take for a trip like that.

I met up with a group of cheery souls today who were expecting to be on the AA direct flight Edinburgh to Philadelphia at 11:35 this morning. They were advised last night the flight was delayed by 7 hours due to ‘special circumstances’. They assumed this was to do with their Presidents ‘private visit’ to his golf courses which has restricted airspace movements. They were none too happy.

@davefl – Thanks mate, I will have a look, but I’m looking for something quite large, a backpackers type.

Secondly, any tips for stuff to do in Washington with 11/6yr olds? We are visiting the White House and getting a tour inside, which will be really interesting, but wanted to check if there was anything that would be particularly good for the kids? Some great museums that my Wife and I did a few years ago, but want to make sure we aren’t missing anything for the kids?

We are off to Washington on a reward CW flight in Sept. Just a question , you say you are visiting the White House yet when we enquired we were told they were not currently doing tours. Did you manage to get tickets?

@stevew, I think OP’s partner may be a US citizen IIRC, or at least a citizen of somewhere which will expedite the visit! When I last checked, it wasn’t available for UK nationals because the embassy won’t provide an escort. We consoled ourselves in the Visitor Centre which was quite interesting, and took pictures through the fence!

Doubt it has anything to do with Trump, and plenty of other flights this morning left on time.

Trump Force 1, carrying family members and hangers-on, reportedly landed at Prestwick this morning. Trump is also expected to land at Prestwick.

My sister in law is American – she contacted their Member of Congress and sorted it that way for us. The route of going through the UK Embassy is closed.

In June I used BAs Best Price Guarantee and got a £ 40 voucher and an expiry for next June. Used it yesterday but then cancelled the flight.

Voucher was reissued today with a different number and an extended expiry till 25/7/25

Wasn’t expecting the ‘use by’ extension.

Doesn’t sound that great to me 😉

I know it’s a bit like telling my granny how to sook eggs but for the cash element, just lose the decimal point. I.e £88 becomes 8800 Avios.
For me though as my acquisition cost is 0.65 I would X the Avios by that and add the 88 to that as a compatible against the cash price.

And is sis-in-law going on the visit with you, or was she able to apply just on your behalf?
(Thinking of doing a similar route at some point) – thanks!
