Not impressed with BA You First. I’ve spoken to four different people about switching a Barclays Club return booking to First out Club return. All proactively offered to refund the voucher and convert to a standard reward booking, but they completely disagree on the cost.

The Avios should be easy: 85K out in First + 90K return in Club – 95K paid already for Premium with the voucher = 80K. I’ve been quoted three numbers between 35K and 70K.

On the extra taxes I’ve been given four different numbers, so by definition at least three of them must be wrong!

All said max Avios / min cash as per the existing booking.

Early morning in the Cathay First lounge in T3 is an oasis of tranquility after how busy the terminal is today. First weekend that all schools are off and obviously it’s going to be especially busy.

Smooth travels for everyone going through here today.

@AndrewT, I think it’s not straightforward calculating the taxes on F mixed with anything else because it’s non-RFS plus RFS. Have you considered just cancelling and rebooking – and 2 separate legs might work even out cheaper on a booking like this? Presumably the cancellation/change cost would be the same.

Hi everyone, I’m new to collecting points. I’ve read the new starter guide and I’m looking for a recommendation to get a welcome offer when signing up for a credit card.

I had an Amex card 12 months ago, so I need to wait another year for the 2 year Amex personal card eligibility period to reset. I also currently have a Barclaycard, which I’m planning to cancel today, then I’ll need to wait another 6 months to qualify again.

It seems like I’m excluded from most of the top picks. Any suggestions?

Yes – there is a difference between personal Amex (gold, plat etc) and the BA ones. The bonus ‘clock’ is separate.

@NorthernLass Yes I know the taxes on a mixed booking are a bit of a moving target, but the range has been big enough to give no reassurance what it might end up costing.

As it’s next month the dates are now fixed, and with no return seats currently available I can’t take the risk the one I have will go back in to inventory. Will keep an eye on it, but as there are still three seats in First (was four so one has gone) I’m hoping for a good AUP option.

@ratmason You are correct that you have to wait a minimum six months before applying for a new Barclaycard after cancelling, with no guarantee of acceptance of course.

But if you are thinking about Avios card sign up offers you need to wait two years if you have an Avios card at present, six months if a non-Avios card.

Managed to add Royal Jordanian Gold FF number to an Avios booking to get free seat selection via BA online chat. When I log into my BA MMB it says I get free seat selection but when trying to confirm my chosen seats I get an error message.

Anyone had this before or how I might resolve it as my preferred seats are available?
