    morning all
The BA app seems to be broken this morning for me. I can see future bookings but no account details. Is this affecting everyone?

@Indy500 It’s been like that for a few days, #gamechanging turning scrabble into snap.

Then there’s the website, three different login pages which forward you to the next one. Just a moment banner which doesn’t understand what a moment is and finally accepting cookies 10 times a day.

Lol, yes this is the crazy thing about the US. Can’t even get served a bottle of wine in a supermarket by a cashier whos is under 21, but hey, they’ll sell you a gun and some ammo if you or they are 18.

Same in England though it’s 18 of course. When I had a part time job at ASDA many moons ago you had to be 18 just to be able to restock the booze aisle during store opening hours.

Didn’t get any real training when I worked on check-out either as there were no “challenge” legislation in place.

In Chicago there was a sign in a Whole Foods that had a “challenge 45” policy. Yes forty five!

Couple of years ago I forgot my ID apologised to the cashier in Trader Joes that I didn’t have my passport on me and she said something like “sorry to say this but you’re clearly over 45” and then had a nice chat about the gin I was buying!

Lived in Chicago for two years. The travel stories are making me jealous and with the improving FX rate and mess taking place these last day I am almost tempted to book a jump to my favourite places (Chicago and NOLA).

Spending 4 nights in NOLA next year – any advice would be appreciated.

Looks like the Global Airlines experiment didn’t work, they are moving into ACMI charter instead of scheduled operations.

Loving the chat about local pubs. In my younger years I frequented an Irish bar in Christchurch (NZ) which unfortunately fell victim to the big quake of 2011.

Many a good St Paddy’s day had, where the queue at the bar was four deep and the bar staff reached over them all to pass me my Guinness when they saw me walk in, knowing I was good for it the next day. I miss having a proper local.

I do enjoy my local pub, but one thing that irritates me slightly is when they close it completely for private functions.

I’ve stopped paying attention to the notices now (Infact they actively encourage me to ignore it), and I just sit out of the way and browse these forums, play chess, and then have some free food at the end of the night.

I also breathed a massive sigh of relief a few months ago when after a couple of months break, amex payments were allowed again.

This thread has reminded me of a story from when I was younger.
As a student I worked on a summer camp in Maine. And I was over 21 at the time. I went and got Maine state ID. I can’t remember if you had to be over 21 to get it but I qualified. They even took a very good photo of me for the ID card.
Anyway a few weeks later the camp staff (or possibly just the Brits and the camp staff who were over 21) were going to have a party for which we needed alcohol. I and the cook (who was American and over 21) went to the Maine state government liquor store to buy the alcohol. This was in the middle of nowhere and had to drive there. The cook tried to pay for the booze but because they didn’t have official ID (i.e. driving licence didn’t count) they could not buy the booze. Fortunately as I was over 21 and had the Maine state Id, I could buy the booze. The cook went to pay for the booze but the employee wasn’t having it because it wasn’t her ID. I had to pay. The cook wasn’t allowed to hand me the cash. Fortunately I had enough cash on me to pay.Lucky that or would have meant a 2nd trip.

Is it not possible to change one’s seat after T-24? I just looked to see if there was anything better than my original choice and the only option I’m getting is “check in now” in the BA app.

*Edit – I checked in anyway and got the option to change seats during the process but the choice was dire so I’ve stuck with my exit row aisle!

Once OLCI opens then you can change seats (if alternatives available) within the OLCI process.

You should be able to look at seats available when you go through the check in process and change, but otherwise no I don’t think so

Thanks, yes, I’ve seen it now!

Greetings from Nice Terminal 2, where we’ve passed through two enforced ‘duty free’ shops on the way to B gates 😄

You only get that one chance now though.

You used to be able to check-in but not generate the BP and then go back in and re-select. But that ended sometime ago.

I remember once being able to hop from row 7 to 3 and ultimately 1.

In Whole Foods in Boston MA some years ago we wanted to buy a bottle of Oregon Pinot Gris and they wanted documentary evidence that we were over 21 although we were both in our 70s. A supervisor reluctantly allowed it.

    A rumour they are denying.

We have a couple of days with family in Royal Tunbridge Wells in a few weeks. Thinking of working our way back to the Lincolnshire Riviera via Kent, Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk over a few days. Any recommendations of places to go? Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know the odds of buying entry to the Al Safwa lounge in Doha (I have the appropriate business ticket) ?
Trying to decide if I should fly direct to Doha or fly to Dubai and get a connecting flight in First.
Thanks for all your help as ever.

Where would everyone recommend for dinner at Gatwick when staying overnight at the bloc hotel? Maybe into the Sofitel for dinner? Any other options?

The restaurant in the Hilton was OK.

I guess that depends entirely on what your interests are. A clue and I’m sure plenty could help. Remember though, the best things about Essex they say are the roads out…

Thanks Swiss Jim, just nice villages with decent pubs/restaurants and some decent treks for someone with a dicky knee.
