Who should I contact about avios from one of our BA Amex accounts not being transferred from one of our cards?
My BA card points are showing up as transferring on both our BA accounts(HHA) but my wife’s points aren’t showing anywhere.
Is that an Amex, or BA, issue?

You should contact Amex. While its standard answer is to contact BA, you want to resist that. Amex is responsible for the despatch and safe delivery of the Avios, can track what has happened and is the party with which you have the agreement to offer Avios. BA can’t track the Avios for you.

Not sure if it’s been covered/mentioned by someone but I am seeing an offer of 9000 avios when I add a first supplementary card holder to my BA Amex card. Seems very generous considering it’s the free card.

Morning from the T5B lounge before we head off to NYC for a couple of days then down to Dominican.

Managed to snag all flights with Avios (including the AA flights from JFK to PUJ), mainly with the Avios earned from the Barclaycard – it’s been a great earner for me.

Question for anyone that has experience of this. Our JFK to PUJ flight departs at 06.34, should we be aiming to get to JFK 3 hours before, like a regular international flight, or is 2 hours enough? I’m good with either, just trying to work out if we leave the hotel at 3am or can leave it a little later.

Normally I’m HBO for work flights going back from the US and arrive at the 2 hour mark. We have luggage with us this time.

@Scottpat78 – Not personally flown this route, but as it is not an internal flight, I’d go for 3 hours, just to be on the safe side, even though manhattan traffic should not be ok that time in the morning, also if you have lounge access it makes sense, as you will have somewhere to relax.

I always allow 3 hours across the board now, as delays are occurring more often on journeys to an airport and also at the airport, better to be safe than sorry, for the sake of an hour!

NOTE – Last time I flew into PUJ, 2 years ago there was no dedicated lounge for AA/BA passengers, not sure if this has changed, we were given a $20 voucher pp to use, you can pay for lounge access if you want.

IHG experts – I managed to mislay the card I have used on IHG bookings and have had a new one issued, which of course has a different number. Whilst most bookings will result in payment on arrival, some technically are due payments 3 days in advance, so any request will be refused under old number.
I can’t see any way to update card details on the bookings – can I do this?

Noticed the next booking seems to have a card number against it that is not and never has been mine! Anyone ever seen that?

@Scottpat78, definitely 3 hours, especially if you have bags to check. It may all be straightforward in the end, but it’s peak season and especially at that time of day there will be lots of people arriving and security queues may be long.

On the other hand, AA are terrible for changes and delays so keep an eye on your booking and don’t be surprised if you end up departing a couple of hours later than you anticipated!

    Have a great trip!

@freckles, I’ve tried this before and not been able to do it. If it’s only a couple of bookings, I’d email the hotels and tell them about the card issue in case any of them get carried away and actually cancel your booking! This did nearly happen to me once when I’d used Curve for 0% FX and it was frozen when they tried to take the payment – fortunately the hotel did contact me and ask for payment but I think they would have been within their rights not to bother and just cancel.

Thanks Gordon & Anna. 2.45 departure from the hotel it is!

Can we still earn aer lingus avios through a United booking, if it’s actually flown with Lufthansa? (with a UA flight number)

& Anna – yes this AA flight has changed schedule almost on a weekly basis these past few months. It was out at 7.34 at one point which seemed more humane.

General observation/moan – I thought flight prices were coming down, or at least stabilising? But when I looked at OPO for next summer (I realise this is just one destination!), HBO prices are £100-£200*, one-way. Last summer I paid £45 each way for HBO seats.

It will make avios bookings a good deal, however! Though I’ve also noticed that BA seems to have whacked up the cash element on some options on peak dates, e.g. on one of the options it’s £35, off-peak but the equivalent option is £47 peak.

*And sometimes more – if you want the early departure on May 1st, HBO is £248!

Customer Services should be able to update this for you if you give them a call.

@freckles Yes call the IHG booking line and they will update the card details, I’ve done that recently.

Don’t call the hotel as perversely I’ve been told they cannot change the payment details in the central booking. They can manually charge a different card, but then it’s out of sync.

Virgins process of needing to book companion vouchers on separate PNRs is so frustrating – and being reluctant to pay for seats – causes unnecessary stress about being seated with the family.

Knowing they have to put kids next to you, I booked and paid for seats for me and the wife with two spaces in the middle. They assigned one of the kids there and put the other one somewhere random. I got it sorted with a call, but even then they refused to book seats for way back until at check in. Im sure it cost them more than the £19 i paid for the one seat.

If I was on one pnr I would know there is a 99% chance that we would all be seated together. It is a systems error/constraint that is forcing this and not my desire to choose a seat. It’s economy so all much for muchness.

This was two voucher bookings under the old system for for week of summer hols. I’ve constantly been watching it with dynamic pricing and at times it’s been as cheap as old pricing (in all classes).

I hope someone from Virgin reads this

I have a small kid and yet I believe it’s just one of the costs of raising a child. Pay up and have peace of mind or keep worrying until the last min.
£19 is pretty cheap compared to BA. In the grand scheme of things, it’s tiny, probably less than a meal for one at a restaurant.

    I’ll never understand hotel pricing.

Checked earlier for the LHR CP T4 for next Wednesday and it was coming up as £ 150.

Was going to book but got distracted. Just searched again and it’s £ 127.

    Same booking conditions and everything,

The HIX is going for £ 187!

Is there a chooseable route to accessing BA’s “Old Check-in” webpage?

Background – went to check-in today (Economy short-haul, to LHR) for flight tomorrow in 23 hours.
I am Bronze so I should have done seat earlier this week, but I didn’t.
No emergency row seats showing available.

Checked in my OH (also Bronze) who is on a separate booking reference, because we only need one checked bag for this trip.
Message “HBO so seat allocated with no choice; if you want to change seat, click here to go to old check-in webpage”
Did so, it was the old page I recognised; it had the same seats available (so it is the same flight!) but also 11 of the 12 emergency row seats.
It allowed her to select one of them and print the boarding pass.
Back to my booking – I cannot find a way to get offered that link to the old check-in page, or otherwise see the emergency row seats.

I cannot work out why for me it does not show the emergency row seats.
It does show me them for the return flight in three days time, and I have put us both in ER for that.
So it’s not that the system has me marked as somehow inligible for emergency row seats.
Is it that if Bronze (and above?) and have not selected seat before the 24 hour window then cannot select emergency row??

Well it’s £19x4x2 return right so that’s £160 on top of the already high fees and charges. Honestly it’s the principle. I regularly pay for an econony aisle for myself on a variety of airlines but to guarantee to sit with my family that’s unfair (and only ryanair proactively breaks families up – there i add it to the cost but even they do give you the kid seat for free).

But I hear you, it would be more efficient to just pay….

This has been the case for years,
Hence, booking as far out as possible, on a cancelable rate and check regularly for movement in either direction, amend as necessary.
Play them at their own game!

Is there any timeframe for when Virgin open the Seoul route for bookings?
