    Do you still say Holland?

Only if I was going to Amsterdam or The Hague but if I was going to Utrecht or Maastricht I would say I was going to the Netherlands😝

And you’d say Netherlands and not Nederland! Why would you randomly insert a foreign word into an English sentence?

Had an IHG offer through via email a short while ago, the headline is “8k points every 4 nights” and it’s a register in one click offer, but if you scroll to the bottom of the email you have the alternative option of 2k points every two nights. Don’t do what I did and absentmindedly click through to the 8k points offer unless you’re sure as I’ve just tried to change to the 2k for 2 nights option and it says I’m ineligible – annoying as that one was more achievable but it will teach me to read to the end of offer emails in future, especially when viewing them on my phone!

They must be doing some A/B testing as my email was the other way round! Luckily I read to the end so just need to calculate which works out best for me…

Had booked Hotel Bristol Berlin while it was still a Kepmpinski (ie part of GHA). A generic e-mail notified me that it has now joined IHG and bookings made through GHA are still valid and even upgrades etc. are still processed based on GHA status (how is this possible?). Given I booked a flexible rate, should I look to book somewhere else as would hate to find out hotel has no trace of my reservation when I arrive in June

Because that is the new official name that Erdogan wants everyone to call Turkey, regardless of language.

Total delusions of grandeur, but the international community seems to have accepted it…

    Dear HfP Bali squad:
I’m about to switch from the IC Sanur to the IC Jimbaran as the reviews of the former are getting worse and the price of the latter has dropped to an average of 32.5k pn for my dates in August which is clearly a bargain.

Can anyone advise just how busy the Jimbaran resort gets in early to mid August?
What’s the demographic? reasonably well behaved Aussies? hoping the raucous stereotypes have buggered off further north to Kuta or something.
Hopefully not too many noisy kids?

hi Aston, have you looked at the Indigo at Seminyak. We stayed there, and I certainly would not discount it.

@PeteM, indeed, I would love to see the reaction to a similar request from POTUS …

You missed the Gulf of Mexico/Gulf of USA renaming then?

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but I’ve noticed quite an increase in the gap between BA’s HBO and EcoPlus pricing lately. I think it’s been creeping upwards for a while, but it never really used to be as much as £100 between the two fare categories for a Band 4 return short haul ticket. By way of example, I’m looking at a £230 return HBO fare to Athens, against a £329 EcoPlus bill.

Any idea how they calculate these? Is the gap dynamically priced?

£ 50-ish one way difference back from Geneva next month. Higher than I remember seeing before. Have BA worked out how much value there is in same day change flexibility?

Also the semi-flex short haul economy fares are finally bookable on BA, several years after being launched for travel agents only with ba.com being promised as “coming soon”. Big differential in pricing from HBO and Plus.

There is certainly something going on with the price differential between eco basic and plus

Just checked for AMS and it’s now £30 whereas I’m fairly sure it used to be in the £15-20 range.

TBH in the scheme of things I don’t think knowledge of Eco Plus being same day changeable is that wide spread and most people buying that fare are doing it for the luggage allowance (and it’s a requirement if you then want to add extra bags due to status)

But £30 does seem to be at a discount to adding a bag on later to an eco fare

Re Bali for Aston100: we (family of five with kids aged 10-15 then) visited IC Jimbaran a couple of times in August 2024 (we were staying in a villa with a pool on the hill above four seasons, as I just could not decide between the all hotels…), once at lunch time and once early evening/dinner. We loved it! It was relatively busy, lots of families but I don’t remember screaming kids; mix of nationalities it seemed. Pools did not seem overly crowded and there were sun loungers to spare when we looked at lunch time. If we went back we would definitely stay here.

Can’t see it mentionted anywhere else, but apologies if it is. I’ve had an email today from Club Eurostar about a points sale with 20% off the standard redemption prices, making a standard value return only cost 1200 points.

@Adsy1020 thanks for that – I need to book a Eurostar on a date when cash prices are through the roof but didn’t quite have enough points previously! Just signed into my Club Eurostar dashboard and when I clicked through to “My Account” at the top of the page it says “Special Offer Now On – Club Eurostar members can get a free ticket for as little as 800 points. Ends 15/05”. Ts and Cs are here with the list of promotional pricing for all reward tickets: https://www.eurostar.com/uk-en/club-eurostar/eurostartickets (note that Eurostar Standard value fare is 800 points one way though, not return).

@davefl, well it’s not quite the same thing but it proves my point about the reaction!

August is one of the best months to visit Bali. When I’ve been there the families with children have been mainly Australian. So I suggest you check when the various states have their short winter holiday.

Having said that the families who stay there wouldn’t tend to be the raucous types. The families who used the club pool when we were there recently had 3 nannies looking after them. They were Australian but may have been expats as one of the nannies seemed to be a permanent nanny rather than local.

    Thanks @mol27 and @qc
    Quite reassuring.

    @yorkshirerich
    – thanks but I’ve read a few dodgy reviews of the Seminyak area so would want to avoid.
Just curious: what was it that you enjoyed most?

Anyway, I’ve gone ahead and booked the IC Jimbaran now.
Price jump for a room with lounge access (to the lesser of the two lounges) is around £85 pn
A further £120pn for access to the club lounge. So somewhere in the region of an extra £200 pn if booked into a regular room and wanting club lounge access.

Think I’ll try and negotiate when I get there. Reward nights at 32.5k suggests they can’t be anywhere near capacity.
