Currently at OSL having taken advantage of bargain Lufthansa business class flights with Lufthansa/Swiss to Shanghai as advertised by Rob last year. Lovely airport a sea of tranquility but the prices for ‘gifts’ is eye watering. Talking to sone’locals’ here on way out Norway has the greatest net wealth, I guess per capita in the world with their endless gas, oil and other resources. Another fact Trondheim airport is in an area called ‘Hell’ guess where I want to visit now…
I’m in Norway at the moment. Alcohol is expensive, but I don’t think prices are as bad as they used to be. We had a filter coffee with free refill and an americano with milk for just over £7. Coffee in a pot (4 cups) and 2 huge slices of cake was around £20. Salmon fillets in the supermarket are cheaper than UK, but that’s no great surprise. You can buy a Zone 1 24 hour card for transport in Oslo, which includes ferries, for around £8. Definitely visit Hell! Norway is a beautiful country. Just be prepared for all weathers – just like the UK. This week has been unusually hot for May. Enjoy Shanghai.
Hi LD27 I was in Norway, Bergen, years ago on a school trip, I would have liked to stay longer but it was the stopover on return from Shanghai and Japan, we will 100% return, especially Hell! Really interesting to hear about travel card, I think transport is another big cost there
Also, just don’t see the need for people to jump up as soon as the seatbelt sign turns off, unless they genuinely need to dash for a connection
Maybe theyve had enough of sitting in seat with little leg room, or they want to put stuff into their bag rather than hold on it and then have to hold up everyone else de-planing while they then put away their things?
We always like to take our time…..never in a rush if it’s a holiday. Always find it a bit funny when BA crew try to hold the business passengers back who are usually up, standing around, and clearly in a hurry to get off, and they are held back waiting for First passengers to disembark first. Always feel under pressure to get off promptly when we like to take our time. 2 kids and a wife who unpack everything always takes a while to sort and get off, whilst noting that you feel like your holding everyone else up….always find that gesture a bit awkward 🙂

Depends on where you’re landing, size of aircraft de-planing, and how many others may have landed at the same time…..some of those immigration queues are a right PIA if you’re not quick (and I’m not speaking about USA), took me an hour to get into Faro last week!!
At Oslo last weekend I was looking out of the window as we were slowly moving to the gate, when the front half of the plane all seemed to jump up, opened the overhead bins, collected their bags and started to walk to the front of the plane. I was surprised the flight crew said nothing. Eventually we came to a halt and the engines were switched off. I have no idea why everyone was in such a hurry as the plane arrived early! The plane was full but there was no queue at immigration.
Even when a plane is stationary at the gate, no one is completely safe. When my daughter was a student in the US, she was boarding a Southwest plane when there was a loud metal crashing noise, a big jolt with passengers falling over when a tug/truck hit the plane. Everyone had to deplane whilst the aircraft was inspected and it was decided the plane could not fly. Some passengers needed to be checked over by medics and others refused to continue with the flight.
@Scottpat78 Our AA booking (via FinnAir) is working again in the AA app MMB and via their website – can change the seats etc. Hopefully whatever the issue AA had is fixed for you too!

I think I’ve recounted before but the worst one I ever saw was on a flight to AMS on EZ. The girl in front of me in the middle bank of seats got up and clambered over her mate in the aisle seat, opened the locker and started getting her bags down – We were on final approach at the time, around 200ft above the ground.

Never mind routine landings — have you seen what happens in staged, volunteer test evaluations of plane evacuations when there is a financial incentive to get off in the first 25 or 50% of volunteers? absolute bedlam, passengers clambering over seats and each other, fighting for space at the exits etc! I can’t find a video on YouTube to link to, but it’s horrifying. And that’s just a drill!
@davefl In that case it could have been a technical failure on approach; one thing that significantly affects landing performance is the anti skid system. I’m not saying that was the issue but it’s one example of a system failure that may prevent landing. This would be followed by a diversion to a longer runway, rectification and then a second go at the planned destination. It’s also one of the reasons commercial aviation isn’t ready for single pilot or AI, we don’t always make the right decision but we generally make safe ones.
@memesweeper There are some great videos kicking around of those evacuations, I think broken bones were involved. When I say great, I mean really scary!
