We’re on the train to Central Helsinki. Phase 1 completed.

Thanks for the Dr Beckmann sheets recommendation!

It’s currently pissing down in Helsinki and I have left my umbrella at home!

Thanks for all the aviation based suggestions. I’ll look at Duxford.

And he doesn’t yet have a ticket to join so there is no risk yet of an under 18 win. Additionally I’ve never won anything so I wouldn’t hold my breath on winning him anything!

@Liz, I checked this very recently as I’ve just made a 5 night booking in the Bahamas where the ($93.50 pn!) resort fee is mentioned on my booking confirmation. The Hilton website still states that resort fees won’t be charged on points stays (I’ll try and find a link). I don’t know how much longer this will last but one would at least expect the terms at the time of booking to be honoured!

My hotel in a Ubud is a SLH, maybe it also gets cancelled to keep making this holiday unforgettable! 😀

    Is that the Viceroy?
If so, and hopefully if you do get to stay can you kindly feedback about the on-site Cascades Restaurant?

    Good luck.

when we stayed at the Viceroy in September, we ate at Cascades twice. It was very nice. We didn’t have the opportunity to experience Aperetif, but did enjoy Pinstripe, the 30”s style cocktail bar.

    Thanks for that.
Did you eat anywhere else of that calibre, such as Mozaic or Locavore etc?

Did you try closing the train windows?

But seriously though, I look forward to an Indonesia trip report when you’re back.

Morning all. I’ve done the thing before where you use the BA PP voucher by booking the outbound a year in advance and calling again later to add the return leg. Was very easy.

Is it exactly the same process for the Barclaycard upgrade voucher?

Got this very scenario coming up. Info gladly received.

Just received the below email from BAC – seems like they’re making it up as they go along!

“As a valued member of the Club with a British Airways American Express® Premium Plus Card, we’re awarding you 500 extra tier points to say thank you for your continued loyalty. You don’t need to do anything, these points will appear in your account this month.

On top of that, you can now earn up to 2,500 tier points when spending on your British Airways American Express® Premium Plus Card until 1 February 2026. Be sure to register by 25 January 2026. Terms apply.

There’ll be further opportunity to earn tier points using your Card starting in April 2026; helping you to unlock more benefits in your next tier point collection year.”

Re – Barclays upgrade bookings: If you look at the various threads on adding return sectors and using the Barclays voucher, it’s definitely possible but the odd reader has encountered a BA agent unable or unwilling to do this. So HUACA may be necessary.

Don’t forget that, unlike with the 241, the journey using the Barclays voucher has to start in the UK, and can only be on BA metal.

That’s the precise reason I take the 7k Avios now, after allowing a few to expire! Ive started booking QR Redemptions east, as I believe them to be a far more pleasurable experience.

Can anyone confirm whether booking the Hilton hotels in Hawaii with points means you don’t pay the resort fees. I know you never used to but not sure if that has changed. I have just booked 5 nights for 4 in Waikiki and booked 6 nights on Big Island (4 of them Hilton hotels). I have saved my Hilton points through promotions and credit card spend for years to do this redemption – all free nights in Hawaii. Spent 545K Hilton points on 9 nights saving me £3500 refundable rates. Hoping that we don’t have to pay the resort fees. Just secured the LAX-LHR-EDI flights this morning. Just got the flights to and from Hawaii to secure and we will be all set. This will complete our 50 states visited. Alaska is next week!

You’ll be fine. I’ve not been charged resort fees for points stays in Honolulu and Maui.

    Accor Status Points

After a couple of stays so far this year, I find myself just 1,435 status points short of Platinum which I understand comes with a couple of suite night upgrades and access to the lounge, where available.

Is there a cheaper / easier way of obtaining the points other than hotel spend, and if I reached Platinum now would it extend to the end of 2026?

    Thanks

Just stepped off an EasyJet flight to an email from BA thanking me for my loyalty and giving me 500 tier points!!

@Gordon, I have similar issues with the Virgin voucher, but take enough BA redemption flights to make the Barclays voucher work for me. Even on short-haul redemptions it’s been worth more than 7k avios (I’ve used them so far for DXB, AGP, ATH and NAS). But yes, if going long haul east, agree QR has more to offer!

Does the Hilton debit card require a hard credit check? Also how long before you get upgraded to Gold. Just thinking of using it for the status but stay is this Saturday.

Anyone? Trip this weekend so need to apply today if upgrade will come through in time.

The articles always say no hard credit check, presumably because it just links to your current account. No idea about the gold status though!
