A friend reports they’ve tried a new airline, RAF rescue flight! TLV to LCA in a prop RAF plane. Some sort of hammock type seat for the 45 minute flight. Segregated lounge area with free refreshments at LCA, 5 hour flight to Birmingham, not sure what plane, but 55 passengers on a plane that could have seated 200+, free upgrade to extra legroom. Then a voucher for a taxi from Birmingham home (over 100 miles) all for £300! No tier points, no Avios.

@Tracey did they have to pay anything or is that a courtesy flight paid by UK taxpayers?

Anybody else got an email from Bluechain? Gave me a chuckle.

    They’re asking for Google reviews.

To help more businesses discover us, we kindly ask that you avoid mentioning specific card brands in your review – it’s better to focus on how Bluechain helped you hold cash, earn rewards, or pay suppliers more flexibly.)

So you want reviews but you don’t want us to be honest. Gotcha.

Does Loganair let you gate check bags?

I’m flying Bergen-Edinburgh on an ERJ, and I know the cabin luggage allowance is tiny.

I’d rather not turn up early at the airport to check in at the desk, nor send my small backpack through the baggage system if possible.

A woman was walking along the beach when she stumbled upon a bottle. She picked it up and rubbed it, and lo-and-behold a Djinn appeared. The amazed woman asked if she got three wishes. The Djinn said, “Nope, sorry you only get three wishes from a Genie,. I’m a one-wish Djinn. So…what’ll it be?”

The woman didn’t hesitate. She said, “I want peace in the Middle East. See this map? I want these countries to stop fighting with each other and I want all the Arabs to love Jews and Americans and vice-versa. It will bring about world peace and harmony.”

The Djinn looked at the map and exclaimed, “Lady, be reasonable. These countries have been at war for thousands of years. I’m out of shape after being in a bottle for five hundred years. I’m good but not THAT good! I don’t think it can be done. Make another wish and please be reasonable.”

The woman thought for a minute and said, “Well, I’ve never been able to find the right man. You know, one that’s considerate and fun, likes to cook and helps with the house cleaning, is great in bed and gets along with my family, doesn’t watch sports all the time, and is faithful. That’s what I wish for – a good man.”

The Djinn let out a long sigh, shook his head and said, “Let me see that freakin’ map again.”

On my one and only Loganair flight to date (from LHR to DND), I took a small wheelie bag, which turned out to still be too big to go in the overhead space. So I was about to disembark to ask the baggage handler to put it in the hold, but the cabin crew took it and put it somewhere at the back of the plane instead.

I did a self connection at Manchester last year. Prior to travelling I went on to the Loganair website and did a live chat with someone and I asked about this. I said I might be short of time and potentially miss the check in desk closure but would get to the gate on time.

They said I could gate check the bag if necessary.

The scenario didn’t get tested since my international flight was on time, passport control was quick (paid for fast track) and I made it to the check in desk before it closed. Oh, and Loganair departed late 🙂

Hi everyone. I’m looking at booking a return to MAD next March and was hoping to get on the 15:45 A350 inbound but it’s not showing at all on the BA website, not for cash or Avios, but it is showing on the Iberia site. As I want to use a 241 voucher that will expire shortly after that month I obviously want to book with BA, will the flight eventually show on BA nearer the time?

I have a question re Travel Insurance that I’m hoping someone may be able to help with.

We are off to USA & Caribbean next month for 3 weeks, and we are taking the eldest’s partner with us who is 16, and doesn’t live with us.

Can I add the partner to either my HSBC Premier Travel Insurance or Amex Platinum insurance for a fee, does anyone know?

We’ve looked at single use policies and they are coming out at £135 for the single trip.

Is there any easy way to find the mythical 90k one way QR trips to Aus/NZ? Have trawled through days manually and every single one is 180k flexi price each way, do they just appear at random?

The Amex Plat policy is on a strictly take it or leave it basis, HSBC offers a duration extension but no other extensions. Does the partner not maybe have insurance cover under their parents’ policy for independent travel? £135 sounds a lot for a young person.

@kraut, it depends when you want to travel to a great extent, some dates will never see standard pricing. Best chance as always is to book as soon as they’re released, but you do see some random additions from time to time.

    @Scottpat78
, my nephew used to travel with us when he was younger and we always had to get a standalone policy for him. £135 sounds very high, though it might be based on medical care being very expensive in the US/Caribbean. Have you shopped around quite a bit and looked at comparison sites? Sometimes you can get cover cheaper which excludes expensive items, for example.

*And as per @JDB, family policies often include independent travel for all members.

I can fly into any of MEL/SYD/AKL so was just hoping there was an easy way to search, ah well. Looks like Vietnam aren’t offering any redemption flights on their SGN-SYD/MEL routes so there goes the other downunder route for 90k 🙁

    Thanks JDB & NorthernLass.

I’ve not looked at insurance for him yet, that’s the quote I got from his mum this morning.

I’ll have a look at single use policies myself – doesn’t sound like HSBC or Amex policies will suffice.

Quick question on the Amex foreign dining credit – how long does it take to credit? I ate at Benoit in NYC on Sunday but it’s not showed yet. The offer is saved to my card.

My friend has paid the FCDO £350 for the same flight. Just waiting to be sent the date and time of it now.

Rob, any thoughts on the avios subscription offered by QR? The one that comes with tier points is interesting.

Soon after they are released. Try the Doha to Oz sector first, then if you find the lower points price for a date try adding the sector to/from Europe. You will need to be flexible re departure and arrival airports.
