Forums Hotel loyalty schemes Hilton Honors Check your Hilton points bookings now – most of mine reduced in price

I have two weeks of reservations across four different Hilton-brand hotels booked for Easter 2023, and given points stays are now more aligned to cash rates, though I’d check the pricing during the recent Hilton sale.

Good job I did: All but one hotel was now on sale for less than I paid last year, so I cancelled them and rebooked at the lower points rate, saving myself over 100k points overall.

So, if you have any redemption stays booked, do keep checking the prices!

    Mine are the same sadly.

Maybe the IHG intern is doing a stint at Hilton?!

All four of my current reservations have gone up: 2 by 2k/night, 1 by 13k/night and Osaka by a whopping 23k/night. Latter two were 5 night stays so very happy I got them at the time.

Still, thanks for posting, always useful to monitor, especially after ‘sales’.

    Mine are all the same.

Always a good idea to check prices or points periodically.

I like that the Bonvoy site allows you to edit a booking, re-select the same room type at the new lower price, and immediately receive a points refund, whereas at Hilton or IHG you have to make a new booking then cancel the old one.

If there is a discount involved, it is more likely the handiwork of a long-suffering disgruntled employee on their way out 🙂

If you aren’t checking on a regular basis – sale or not – on your points and refundable cash bookings for price changes then you run the risk of paying more than necessary.

June last year I booked a hotel in New York for this January (next week actually) (not part of a chain) for what was a very good rate of $ 1827 for 7 nights that I was happy to pay.

A check in November led to a saving of $300

A check just before Christmas meant another saving of $300

I’d rather that $600 be in my pocket!

And my bookings spreadsheet shows I saved 13k IHG points in one fell swoop on one night at an HI (not connected to the Sunday sales).

Hmm – my Hilton Berlin booking for Feb half term is now nearly twice as expensive! Glad I held onto that.

On my last 3 IHG point stays:

    – for one, one week out the price of another nearby similar property dropped by half, so I changed hotel to save 33%
    – for another I had chosen a dinky HI as it was the only one in the area at a sensible price, but a few days before the stay an Indigo dropped significantly and I decided to spend the extra 25% points, previously the nicer hotel was double
    – all 3 hotels decreased by 1000 points the night before or the morning of check in so, being careful to verify that the cancellation deadline was in the afternoon, I rebooked while on the way to the hotel (a bit risky if not enough points to rebook before cancelling)

On my recent Hilton point stays: checking whenever the USD strengthened by a few % usually resulted in seeing a drop of 1000 or 2000. No big drops unfortunately
