Forums Frequent flyer programs Virgin Flying Club Claiming Original Route/Cabin Credit on VS for Partner Flights

Recent Return trip booked with AF/KL booked as LCY-AMS-DXB-CDG-AMS-LCY

Booked cabins were Economy on the short-haul legs and Premium Economy on the sectors to/from DXB.

The outbound AMS-DXB was subject to an equipment swap from a B78X to a B77W which does not have a PE cabin and I was involuntarily downgraded to Y.

Points and mileage have posted to VS based upon the flown cabin, therefore I have got only 50% Miles and 25 TP when the booked PE class would have got me 100% Miles and 50 TP.

Conversely, on the Return leg I was op’upgraded to the Business (doubtless because of the earlier debacle) and yet VS have givne moe points only for the Booked cabin (PE) and not the Business Cabin flown, which is clearly inconsistent with their previous action.

It cannot be the case that an involuntary Downgrade results in downgraded points/miles but an ‘involuntary’ (in the sense that I didn’t know it was coming until I checked in) Upgrade doesn’t earn the Upgraded points from the new cabin. Surely mileage/points eligibility must either be per the booked class or the flown class and not some ad-hoc scenario that favours the airline and cheats the customer both ways?

I’ve raised a claim for ORC on the first flight (twice, because the drones at Virgin don’t have the courtesy to acknowledge messages) but yet to do so for the return sector.

By my calculation for the AMS-DXB-CDG portion I should be due 6470 Miles and 100 Tier Points based on points awarded for the Booked Class on each Sector or 8116 Miles and 125 Tier Points for the cabins actually flown (assuming only the lowest fare buckets for Business), whereas what I’m currently seeing in my VS account is 4862 Miles and 75 Tier Points so feeling somewhat short-changed here.

Best advices please for my chances of getting the original credit I was expecting? Or, better, the credit for the flights/cabins I actually took? To cap it off the return from CDG to LCY via AMS got nixed due to weather and de-icing issues at AMS (so no EC261, sadly) so I’m looking to claim ORC on that portion too (albeit it’s in Economy so worth very little additional points/TP)

Well you could try calling and asking very nicely but I’m not sure it’s actually a contractual entitlement.

More importantly, have you claimed your EU265 involuntary downgrade reimbursement?

Earning lower points on a downgraded leg is slightly compensated for by getting 75% of the fare back.
