I have earned the upgrade voucher on the Barclaycard Avios plus card and am considering my options.

Do I can cancel the card in it’s entirety? It is nice having a mastercard for Avios when a retailer doesn’t accept Amex. Anyone who how long you have to wait before you can reapply and get the sign up bonus? Is it 6 months as is the case if you have a legacy Barclaycard?

Do I downgrade to the free card? The HfP FAQ on this cards states that if you downgrade, your ‘spend to date’ restarts. Does that mean if I spend a further £20k on the free card, I could potentially earn another upgrade voucher in the same year? With the counter resetting, you could downgrade the card, wait a month, upgrade again and then trigger a new upgrade voucher every 4 months? Thoughts

    Thanks for the help.

    Hi,

I was thinking the same things:

RE: when can you get a new bonus terms say 2 years

Terms states: “3.2 We’ll only apply one Avios Welcome Bonus in relation to your card to your BAEC account during the lifetime of
your card account. If you close your card account after you receive your Avios Welcome Bonus and then open another Barclaycard Avios card account within 2 years after you closed the original account, you will not be eligible for another Avios Welcome Bonus”

RE: the upgrade and downgrade, terms just says 12 months. but as clock resets unsure.
“8.2 You’re only eligible for one qualifying spend reward within a 12-month period under these rules. Once you’ve reached the qualifying spend amount within a 12-month period, any further purchases you make won’t be taken into account for this purpose. In other words, the qualifying spend amount will reset at the start of each 12-month period. The first 12-month period starts from the date you opened your card account.
