Club date swap

I had a 2/4/1 Club booking to CPT on 8/1/23 to 26/1/23 which for family reasons I wished to change. I thought this would not be possible as it is now March 2022 and all 2/4/1s would be gone. However having tried I found it was indeed possible to change easily online

My question now wanting to come back at end February 2023, will this work if I simply book any next available date online and then change to my preferred date?

It seems odd to be able to switch a 2/4/1 online to a flight where no Avios is available – did I just get lucky on the outbound flight.

I’ve heard about this from others. It seems that BA has forgotten to remove some of the covid online flexibility it brought in ….
