Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Hello , I posted a question on here a while ago about availability. I am pleased to say that I have managed to get Business Class flights to JNB next March but unfortunately only Economy on our return from Cape Town. Thank you to everyone who gave advice as this is the first time I have booked an Avios flight and will be the first time ever flying in Business Class

I have had a look at the flight details and it is BA057 to JHB on a 787. I had a look at the seat selection and unfortunatley it appears that it is the older type of Business Class layout , not the new Club Suite.

Is it likely that the layout might change to Club Suite between now and next March?

    Thank you again

Howzit Durbs, well done, you’re sure to enjoy your first J class long haul flight.

Consider taking out a 12 month subscription to SeatSpy and create an alert for yourself if you’ve booked 2x one-way tickets and you’re Avios rich enough to be able to nab another CPT-LHR J class reward flight (if one comes up meantime) before cancelling the Y booking.

SeatSpy is currently showing one J class reward ticket CPT-LON on Sat 9 March and one PE on 30 March. I’ve found that plenty J class reward seats become available on the JNB route within the 5-7 months out window, so SeatSpy subscription could pay off for you if similar on CPT route.

Otherwise, save up a reasonable monthly amount you’d be prepared to pay to upgrade to J between now and your flight and ask the ladies at CPT check-in what deals there are on cash upgrades.

I’ve been pleasantly surprised in the past, once when at my prompting, the lady discovered a deal that she wasn’t aware of which (I suspect) involved some commission for her as she was more delighted to take my cash than mere professional service would explain.

Of course, it never hurts if you manage to connect with a fellow Zulu speaker, which happens more often than I’d have expected outside of KZN and always results in a delightful interaction, especially if, like me, you’re an umdala umlungu travelling the world with his hand carved Zulu nduku as I do.
