Forums Other Flight changes and cancellations help Codeshare 261 claim

Booked 2 award tickets with BA for LHR to KUL and was rebooked onto Qatar LHR-DOH-KUL with BA flight numbers.
Flight left London over 4 hours late, we missed connection in DOH, arrived in KUL 5 hours later than planned after being rebooked onto Malaysian flight for DOH-KUL.
We missed flights from KUL (separate booking) and a hotel stay, incurred hotel booking at KUL and new flight costs.
Should I claim 261 via BA as they did booking and tickets had codeshare BA flight numbers or should I claim 261 via Qatar?

What was the cause of the delay? This will determine whether you’re eligible for compensation, though you can submit a claim without a reason and wait for the airline’s response. Unfortunately you’d need to claim from QR as the operating carrier and they don’t have a great reputation for engaging with such claims.

However, even if you’re eligible for compensation for the late QR arrival into KUL, if your onward flight was on a separate booking, QR has no liability for that. You’d need to claim on your travel insurance for the extra incurred costs.

Delay was late arrival of inbound aircraft.
I thought 261 was a formula based on distance and delay of arrival, even if I had no costs I thought we could claim.

The reason for the delay of the inbound aircraft may determine whether you have a claim.

It’s still not clear whether your onward flight from KUL (which incurred extra flight and hotel costs) was on the same booking or a separate one.

Yes you can claim compensation for the delay but only if the delay was caused by an eligible reason

Anything related to the separatly booked ex KUL flight and hotels etc is for an insurance claim (or for you just to eat the loss)
