I have c. 1.5m Avios and my partner doesn’t collect them yet but does enjoy the various flights. They’re interested to sign up to BA Amex especially as there’s now a bonus offer with BA shopping portal. The companion voucher would obviously be very helpful.
I guess the only way to use this voucher is by me setting up a household account? Is it right that for any flight redemption it then deducts Avios pro rata from both accounts? Ideally we’d use up the 60k or so Avios from the sign up offer for p2.
Or is an alternative to not setup the household account and for me to just send over the Avios required for a redemption when using that voucher? I’m not sure how much it costs to send Avios.
Any help on the best arrangement here would be appreciated. The thing is I also have a voucher to use and this second voucher may take a year to earn, so maybe we use my Avios and voucher to book with that soon and save up the Avios in p2’s account and figure out what to do with that and their voucher later?
Or if combining into a household account can the Amex companion vouchers be used by either of us? ie can I access and use their voucher?
Yes in a HHA avios get taken pro rate based on how many avios the members have. So if you have 90% of the avios of the HHA total then 90% of the avios needed for a flight get taken from your account
2-4-1 would need to be booked from your partners account and they would need to be on the booking.
If you don’t want to set up a HHA then yes indeed you can transfer your avios over. IIRC this £50 but is also free if you are gold. But there is also a limit on how many you can transger – I’d double check those on the avios app.
Thanks a lot. If I wanted to limit how many Avios were taken from my stash, pro rata, is a way of limiting this to move Avios out of BA into Finnair and Qatar? I’m guessing those Avios don’t form part of the BA household account Avios?
Yes you can move them to QR and they cease to be redeemable on ba.com. Also Iberia (not sure about Finnair).
