Companion voucher question

Sure I could find the answer with some Googling, but you are a smart bunch so this seems easier 🙂

My wife has the basic blue free Amex and has somehow (asos orders) got to within £500 of getting the economy 2-4-1 voucher.

My question is, if she upgrades now to the Black BA Amex, will she get the business class 2-4-1 voucher? She has already passed the £10k threshold for it, would it just get credited as soon as she upgrades? or does it not work like that?
