Does anyone else feel totally misled by Amex change to year end spend? My account clearly states I need to spend £10k by July next year to qualify, yet it’s still going to increase to £15k on the 1st Nov

This has been discussed exhaustively on here, but if you’re totally new to the site you may well feel so.

Yeah i suspect if you delve a little deeper into this you’ll see that its clearly going to be 15k from 1/11

I will hit the £10k threshold next week before the 1 Nov date so not particularly bothered but then again I’ve never taken the full 12 months to hit it anyway. The £15k threshold is tougher but achievable for me but will obviously take me longer.

I think I was lucky because I had 6.5 months notice to hit the £10k before 1Nov. I would’ve felt less happy if I had less time to do so.

to be fair to Amex they have been quite transparent about the upcoming changes for some time it’s not like they just popped up last week.

Welcome to the forum Graeme – it might be a good idea not to have your email address as your online name.

Ok it’s 1 November and the tracker in my app still says £10,000 to spend and I’ve £36 left to spend. I’m not wanting to trigger the voucher yet, I wonder if I’m safe to start spending again?

    @HamshireHog
Someone else on similar topic this morning, was annoyed they missed the cut off with £455 to spend. Maybe wait and see if they get their voucher now it’s Nov 1st. As they do want it now. It does appear confusing on my tracker also, but not spending as we don’t need the voucher til June 25.

It looks like the tracker has now been updated to reflect the additional £5K spend requirement. So we can start to spend again to trigger the voucher in mid-Jan 🙂

So I was in the same boat and waited until 31/10 to start spending again…but triggered the voucher by mistake (which I thought odd) 🙁

HOWEVER… I also now have a tracker saying “£10,447 spent, spend £4553 by 08 Feb 2025 to receive your Companion Voucher”.

That’s going to be quite easy… and doesn’t matter to me whether on BAPP or my Barclaycard given the earning rate so will see whether an IT cock up gives me another 😊

Same exact situation for me – I hit the 10k in my last week of Oct, got the new voucher. And now it shows this

Spend £4,962 by 20 Jan 2025 to receive your Companion Voucher.
    £10,037 spent
    £4,962 remaining

Me too, voucher received in October and only £2k to spend by December for next voucher. Just in time for Christmas!

I found out about this today, well I knew it was changing next year but had no idea they were going to be retroactively changing peoples targets mid contract until I saw a throwaway comment about it elsewhere >.>

Very shady move by Amex, not to mention stupid. They obviously think that by moving the target from £10k to £15k they will get +£5K out of customers plus the raised annual fee. But in many cases they will be getting -£10k, no annual fee, and Barclaycard will be getting +£10k haha.

No idea? They sent everyone a notice months ago in April time and it was clearly on the website since then that it would change on 1st November if you signed up for a new one before then. Nothing shady from a comms perspective unless you didn’t read it properly

This site also wrote an article telling everyone it would change for everyone – https://www.headforpoints.com/2024/04/10/british-airways-american-express-changes-2/comment-page-1/

Also the message on the voucher tracker has been updated to very clearly state they won’t be issuing a second voucher

*** TECHNICAL ERROR MESSAGE REGARDING YOUR COMPANION VOUCHER**** Spend £xxx by xxx to receive your Companion Voucher. There is a technical error related to the threshold calculation affecting some
Cardmembers that already received their Companion Voucher within their membership year. For example, if you have already received your Companion voucher within your membership year, and the tracker is showing you are progressing towards an additional voucher within the same membership year, this is in error. As a reminder, only one Companion Voucher can be earned in any 12-month period and as of November 1st, the required spend is £15,000.
You can begin earning towards your next Companion Voucher after your 12-month Card anniversary date.
