Companion Vouchers and Avios – Best way for Family of 4?

I am wondering what is the best way to sort a return trip to NYC for a family of 4.
I have a large amount of AVIOS, and I have also recently signed up to BA AMEX Premium Plus card so I can get the companion voucher.
My wife will also sign up to the BA AMEX Premium Plus card separately too, so she can get a companion voucher too. So that should cover the 4 of us.

My first question is, does the companion voucher cover return flights, or just one way?

Secondly, is it worth creating a household account, to include my wife and her eventual companion voucher, so we can have 1 booking for the 4 of us, and use the x2 companion vouchers (one in my name, one in her name) or would we need to keep avios accounts separate, and make 2 separate bookings?(Simultaneously to get the same flights).

@jmwalker87 – yes the companion voucher covers return flights , although if you just used it one way the voucher is also fully used.

The household account is a good idea to pool Avios but it doesn’t pool the vouchers. As the companion voucher requires the voucher holder to travel with the companion, you will need either to make the booking for one adult voucher holder with one child from that account, and the other parent & child from the other account. If you telephone, BA should be able to book all four of you with both vouchers although you will either both need to be on the line or get authority to act on the other’s account. If you have a household account the Avios will be drawn from the one pot in either scenario.
