Anyone got experience of using a suite upgrade voucher at the Crown Plaza Docklands?
Not clear that there are particularly more expensive rooms at this hotel until you get to suite levels so hopefully most will book into a suite?
Has experience with these benefits been generally good?
Thanks
They are still relatively new so usage may not be wide spread.
My one experience so far was at an IC so not exactly comparable. I wrote a brief report on here in March.
The only tip I can give is when you call to use the upgrade is to have the hotels app / web page open so you can see the room they are offering you and check it’s size and facilities before you confirm you want it.
Well if you use the voucher you’ll get a suite, you won’t get a “premium room”. But yes have the hotel’s booking page open to see what room you are getting.
T&C state it can be a premium room. It will depend on the availability and what the hotel/IHG has been put into the upgrade pool.

The T&Cs mention premium rooms
“Confirmable Suite Upgrades will be applicable for one room upgrade to an entry-level suite or premium room where a suite is not available.”

Crowne Plaza Docklands doesn’t seem to have any ‘premium’ rooms, they go straight from double or King standard to Junior suite/suite
Feedback on this is generally good. It appears that the call centre simply looks at what is available for sale and changes your existing reservation (which is why your booking needs to be Best Flex, so the IT system can handle the room move).

Ahhhh…I was forced to book the members discount non refundable pay now rate because of the Amex £75 back offer. Damn…oh well just have to phone up and see if they accept it when the time comes.
Have they taken the payment? I’m finding a lot of IHG hotels don’t do this until very near to check in, which makes it quite difficult to use the Amex offers if your stay is beyond the end date.
Resurrecting this to report mixed success.
I had 2 x 5-night reservations in GCM at the Kimpton and the new Indigo, in case one didn’t have a suite available. This proved correct at the Kimpton which was my first choice.
I got a very fast response on the phone (using the 01950 number as the 0800 one didn’t connect), though the agent said he could only see 2 out of more than 20 reservations in my account! After going away to speak to his supervisor, he managed to apply the upgrade voucher to the Indigo stay by searching on the reservation number, and it’s now showing in my account.
I have taken a screenshot after reading about a couple of instances where hotels have subsequently “downgraded” guests who have used the certificate!
Quite pleased as the refundable rate for the suite is £747 pn and I got the original room for 50k points pn. It’s also a brand new hotel and very nice from first reviews.
Any movement yet on these being accepted for AMB 2for1s? The T&Cs say this will be available “in the future”.
Does it still say the same about points stays? They weren’t eligible to begin with either.
But I wouldn’t feel I’d got full value from a 2-night stay so probably wouldn’t use the suite upgrade for an Ambassador weekend.
Andrew – still not available
NorthernLass – no change and still available on reward rooms. I really don’t see them taking that option away!
Morning All – I was reading the T&Cs re Confirmed Suite Upgrade vouchers and noticed this,
“Confirmable Suite Upgrade can only be applied to stays that are on an eligible rate, e.g., Best Flexible, Member Discount, Reward Night, Government, and select Corporate and package rates”
Am I right in thinking that this is not the Member Discount non-refundable rate but the Member Discount Best Flexible rate?
I would think that all standard cash bookings are eligible, it wouldn’t make sense to allow upgrades on points bookings but not a cash rate (barring the special pricing mentioned).
I upgraded a points stay recently, it was easy to get through on the phone and they were very helpful so I’m sure you’d get clarification by calling (or emailing).
All cash bookings aren’t eligible.
I can’t link to the members benefit table at the moment but it says something like if the booking has a pre paid deposit or is fully paid at the time of booking those bookings are excluded.
I’ll post the link later when I have my iPad and after I’ve had lunch in the lovely Dutch sunshine!
