Is it easy to convert the Gold Rewards card to a non-gold rewards card?
The Gold Rewards card has a fee (first year free) so after that first year, or even part way through, I’d like to convert it to the non-fee version.
Although spending £3000 in 3 months will be tough, there is a mobile phone I’ve been looking at that’s about £1000, which puts us in the same “spend £2000 in 3 months for bonus points” as the normal one. It’s potentially doable over Christmas, but will be close as I can think of any other large spends we’ll be making by card. Although diesel is creeping back up and that’s £70 a tank.
I have a month or so to think about it and while I’m not a gambler, I think this risk may be one worth taking.
So yes, is it easy once points have been accrued so transfer them to a new points earning credit card?
You have to open the card separately. There’s no direct way to change/downgrade.
The membership points you earn will transfer over though.
I know someone who did a direct downgrade over the phone last month from Gold to ARCC without making a fresh application so it is definitely possible, but perhaps it is not an option they make available to everyone.
Now that there are no charge cards, downgrade can be done. Make sure you downgrade before the annual fee kicks in as it’s not refundable from Oct.
