Good Morning All,
I wondered if you could help advise as I have just got back into Manchester from a flight abroad with Qatar Airways. On checking my checked baggage my iPad screen is cracked, and I wasn’t sure if my BAPP or platinum card would be best placed to claim on the insurance?
Thanks
I’d be interested to know how you get on with this as I had a claim denied by Chubb under the Platinum Refund Protection where a vendor wouldn’t take back an item (it was denied because the item was digital). A lot of the AMEX insurances now depend on which card you paid for the flight on – Platinum Insurance, for example, mandates this for Personal Belongings / Money and Travel documents insurance.
If it helps I had a claim on my Platinum Card insurance about a year ago for a broken golf club (it was snapped during baggage handling). Within a week the money equivalent to its replacement cost was in my bank account (no evidence needed). Value of my claim was approx £300

You need to claim from whichever insurer offers you the lowest excess/sufficient cover and you will need to tell them of any other cover in place. The bigger issue is whether you have a valid claim. An iPad shouldn’t be packed in checked luggage (and you may have warranted your luggage contained no such items) and responsibility for adequate packing of fragile lies with you. Notwithstanding, the golf club report above, did you report the breakage to QR as most insurers will require you to claim from the airline first per their terms. Do you have any evidence the screen cracked in transit.
Thanks for the advice, there appears a couple of hurdles in which to jump which may make the claim difficult, the first of which we hadnt reported it at the airport, so Im trying to do this online now, the second of which is I paid on the BAPP card and not the Platinum Card; so as aforementioned it appears unlikely Ill get this to be a processed claim. Oh and as you mentioned JDB another hurdle is the packing in the checked luggage. Good to know for future I suppose Ill need to pay on Platinum Card for damaged items, albeit BAPP has better travel cover for baggage.
