Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Executive Club Cost in Avios for children??

    Hi all

Hope someone can help as struggling to find the answer anywhere online!

We have an Amex 2-4-1 voucher that we are looking to use next summer, we are travelling with our two kids too, but we don’t have the luxury of a 2nd voucher for them – but we DO have a lot of avios – nearly 275k which we may take advantage of

Is the ‘cost’ for kids travelling on a reward seat but WITHOUT the 2-4-1 the same avois and cost as an adult??

e.g if 2 adults with a 2-4-1 is 70,000 avois and £300 return, would the kids be the same EACH???

I’ve done a dummy booking and this seems to be the case, but I’m surprised as I thought it would be lower than and adult.

    Any help much appreciated!

Yes, it’s the same unless they are under 2. The taxes and charges may be slightly less depending on whether kids are exempt from any of them

Children over 2 are charged the same amount of avios as adults. I can’t remember if they get a reduction in fees, possibly not on RFS bookings.

But you’re going to be paying similar prices on cash fares, the “child pricing” we tend to think of is usually for discounted package deals with tour operators, which you don’t see much these days.

Hence why our travel has become 1/3 cheaper since our son decided he’s too cool to come on holiday with us!

275k avios isn’t actually very many when you look at how many you need for a long haul flight!

Thanks guys – as I thought

Yeah I see what you’re saying – 275k doesn’t stretch that far does it!

May keep to a cash booking for summer next year and earn the avois and TP and save the 2-4-1’s for grown up trips without kids!!!

Think also it may be time for a 2nd Amex card so were can get 2 companion vouchers per year 🙂

I’d towards holding a single BAPP and timing two vouchers to allow for family of four to travel on two vouchers, on a two year cycle. Generating enough Avios to use two vouchers each year is a big ask .

Some airlines do give discounts to children – not sure I’m allowed to post a link to a rival website so delete this if not https://thepointsguy.com/guide/discount-child-airfare/

You can plan a trip where you mix and match avios and cash bookings, or use the 241 for 2 of you and book a BAH for other family members. We’ve done this a lot over the years, especially as when our son was younger BA only used to guarantee 2 x CW seats, and that was often all that was released in school holidays.
