I have friend who has been going round in circles with BA on pricing the cost of adding a return leg using a companion voucher from Tokyo to Manchester ad would appreciate any input the forum can offer.

They originally booked MAD to TOKYO on Iberia and paid 31,000 avios + £364 for PE + the voucher for the outbound.

For the return (which is off peak) they are being told it is going to cost 60,000 avios + £453 in PE – however the max avios price for this leg I can see seems to be 50,000 + £405 for off peak. Does anyone have any idea how BA might have arrived at there numbers? My friend have been on the phone to BA 5 times now and is no nearer a resolution or an explanation despite this being escalated at least twice.

This might make some sense if the return is routing via London and the domestic sector is defaulting to Club? The difference in fees of £24pp would/could be explained whichever routing is being used as the charges for the extra flight.

Get your friend to ask BA for the breakdown and all should become apparent. The agent may well not understand (and is just relaying what the system says) so the pax needs to be on the ball.

Just replied to what I think is your post over on FlyerTalk assuming you are highlandguy there?

I think BA is correct in what it is quoting as your return flight routing is different to the outbound and BA offers RFS pricing which IB does not.

I have posted a screen shot showing the fare of 60k Avios + cash which matches what you wrote above remembering the cash is doubled for 2 pax.

Thanks JDB and AJA – it turns out the return is peak and not off peak which accounts for the increase in avios and as AJA pointed out on flyertalk BA have used the 3rd pricing option, it all now makes sense. Thank you
