Today (28 June) is the publicly announced date of termination of all IHG reward cards from Creation. Personally, I have received no notice of withdrawal of my white IHG card (the free card). No notice of closure when I log in (the closed Premium card had a note of limited functionality). I’m just wondering if this little card has slipped below the radar. Last statement dated 23 June, with 800 IHG points to be credited. Business as usual?
Have you not had any emails from IHG itself mentioning that the card is shutting and they will be extending your status into 2024?
Even as an ex Creation card holder whose card was closed by Creation, I have received several emails related to this. That you never received a letter from Creation informing you of card benefits changing doesn’t stop them from changing it.
Only communication from IHG, on 9 May, was about closure of the Premium rewards card. Mine was withdrawn in October 2021. My white card was never linked to Curve. Now at 11.30 today I received a new message from IHG, mentioning closure of the free card for the first time. Presumably Creation did not think withdrawal of the free card was worth notifying.
I would like to offer my thanks to all those of you who took the time and effort to raise complaints with FOS.
I emailed a complaint to Creation about 1 month ago after it became clear that the FOS were not siding with Creation. A response from Creation today has promised a free night voucher, thousands of points, and a £60 refund.
My complaint to Creation took 3 minutes to write. I will demonstrate my gratitude to those who spent hours crafting their complaints to FOS by ordering another cocktail (or two) at the Conrad Koh Samui and drinking it in your honour. Cheers and good health to you all!
I did the same about 2 months ago. And was again rejected by Creation, even though they dont owe me as many points and my refund is small. They remain as inconsistent and unreasonable as ever.
I rejected Creation’s offer. It was passed on and a case handler took it on in early June and said they will be in touch with Creation and provide me monthly updates. Utterly bizarre timeline process that the ombudsman follows. I just chased to ask why it requires so long.
Hope to grab a swift half with you tonight Tom.
Good to meet you tonight memesweeper.
Likewise — and us talking outside made it into the photos on today’s (Wednesdays) party article!
I wish to thank those that challenged Creation after the closure of CC accounts as I decided not to challenge the early decision they made and have now benefited.
My black IHG card was closed following no misuse of the account but after I had spent the £10,000. They returned my newly paid fee, but refused me my points earned and the free night certificate.
After the Financial Ombudsman Services decision that Creation were in the wrong to close accounts without paying out what was due (or whatever!) I contacted Creation this year informing them that I should get my points and certificate or I would now take the matter further. After some time, Creation came back to me with an admission that my points should be put into my account, but they stated that I was not eligible for the certificate.
I replied with evidence showing this was nonsense – thank goodness I had taken a photo of my account prior to closure – and today I received the free night certificate into my IHG account. I know it was what I was due, but I thought that initially challenging Creations catch-all closure term was not worth fighting. If it hadn’t been for those people on HfP who have more time and inclination than me, then I wouldn’t be in this position.
Thank you.
Now, where to spend that certificate…….?Yes they accepted they owed me points and refund for partial year but denied me a voucher from the year prior where the earning year ended after the notice period. I have gone back and rechallenged this again
My FOS investigator was told similar by Creation in my case and they have therefore found against me – have politely pointed out that they’ve ignored almost all of my written complaint in doing so and requested escalation.
Don’t anyone think the fact that the IHG cards are now permanently closed means you can’t still claim, or keep following an existing claim till those sleazeballs at Creation pay out what they owe you.
Creation is still operating a number of other cards (eg store cards) in the UK so they must still keep their operations clean for FOS and regulators. No way should you be put off pursuing them to the right result directly or via FOS or via mcol as they are still there and 6 years haven’t gone by.
My FOS investigated has ruled that Creation don’t need to give me my free night voucher or points but that they should offer me a pro-rata card fee refund.
I’ve asked for it to be escalated to the Ombudsman.
Weirdly I’ve just noticed that my free night voucher was finally deposited a week ago. I’m one of the cohort that had an October year end although there was a wrinkle for mine in that I closed my credit card account after my year end but before Creation got round to charging the fee. I haven’t heard anything from the FOS on this other than an introduction email from the case handler some time ago.
For the free white credit card which they allowed me to open, and use and then rescinded my application, my case handler has emailed today pretty much saying tough luck. No compensation and no 10,000 introductory bonus. But Creation should pay me 200 points for spend made.
Obviously because it’s Creation, on checking my IHG account, they’ve transferred over 10,200 points.
So I’ll point this out to the FOS and say no need to progress to the Ombudsman. I’m actually sympathetic to @JDB’s argument that the FOS have more important things to do right now.
@stevenhp1987 – how bizarre – aren’t your circumstances pretty much the same as the majority of us here? Have you pointed out that Creation have actually paid out to multiple claimants now?

I was given the 60 days notice… Creation then shut me down immediately about 3 weeks later citing section 12 (at fault – “business decision”).
FOS agreed they could close my account down at any time and that they say it was in line with the T&C. They refuse to provide me with the evidence from Creation as it was received in confidence.
I can only guess that Creation are claiming something illegal has occurred and FOS cannot tell me due to AML regulations. That or “business decision” is something they can hide behind without needing to explain themselves to anyone?
I rejected the Creation offer made back in March (accrued points, accrued free night and pro rata refund), seeking in addition ‘distress and inconvenience’ compensation. FOS investigator has now upheld the complaint and proposes £100 compensation for: (a) ‘loss of opportunity to use the card during the notice period’ (when I phoned after the first statement they told me I wouldn’t earn points during the notice period, so I stopped using it at that point); and (b) being unable to use the free night in 2022 (I provided evidence of a paid stay where I could/would have used the free night had it been credited at the correct time).
Nothing to get too excited about, but worth waiting the extra 3 months for, I suppose. Especially when it had taken Creation over 12 months to accept that it owed my the points, night and pro rata refund.
I still miss the IHG card (and the annual free night) – it’s a pity no one else has stepped in.Personally, I have received no notice of withdrawal of my white IHG card (the free card). No notice of closure when I log
I’m in the same position as you re: creation though I did get an email from IHG about the 4x offer a few months ago.
Not a bad little card – I think they gave 500 points to open it – but I’m now treating it as defunct, notice or no notice.

Treat it however you want, they’re all closed now. And the SUB was 10,000 or 20,000 points, depending on whether you took out white or black. Nobody will take out a credit card for 500 points, it’s not worth the hassle.
TBH I know it’s a pathetic amount, but having now seen on this thread that FOS is suggesting amounts like £100 or £150 for distess and inconvenience in addition to what’s been confirmed as owed to cardholders, I’ve reached the conclusion the FOS are of the view that Creation has definitely definitely treated its holders of the IHG card very unfairly.
Previously I’ve seen in specialist financial press the FOS reported to have awarded amounts like £75 or £100 for struggles people have had with financial providers for *years going through multiple levels of apoeal to get what they’re entitled to, from the provider who has erred or treated them unfairly.
I have always thought those amounts were too small so if the FOS is now suggesting £100 or £150 distress/inconvenience payments from Creation to cardholders, for a card that lasted not much more than a couple of years in the market.. so people can’t have had to pursue them for 5 years…This makes me guess the FOS thinks Creation has been very bad.

Why would anyone else step in? You may well miss the benefits, don’t we all, but it was a complete loss making exercise for Creation. Made worse by their poor controls and IT systems.

But your answering this with a hfp mind. They must have had thousands of regular folk who paid £99 and spent 4k-6k annually on it.

I think you missed the fact that the distress/inconvenience payment was reduced from £150 to £50 by the Ombudsman and the £100 reported above is both preliminary and not for distress/inconvenience. The card you say “lasted not much more than a couple of years in the market” was launched in 2016 – but, hey, why let the truth get in the way of a good story.

This is outrageous and you should keep appealing.
Great news for the majority on here that they have now received what they deserved. So happy that most decided to go to the FOS, even though one particular poster was constantly trying to instil doubt.
I’ll be using my 2 free night certificates and points for 4 nights at the IC Maldives. I’ll certainly be enjoying my cocktail as this particular poster fumes…
Unexpectedly – I received a new IHG Creation card in the post this morning. Old one was due to expire in August, and this new one is dated from June. IHG branding intact. Shall I see if it works?
FYI post the FOS offers I complained to creation a couple months ago about my card being closed (August anniversary) when due a free night voucher for £10k spend, 30k points and a pro rata refund.
The creation investigator agreed they could have been clearer and found in my favour so I’ve now received all I was due.
Tbh can’t help but feel creation we’re always wrong snd could have saved themselves a hell of a lot of trouble and headache by awarding what people were due months/years ago. Expensive lesson for the MD Mr Hunt.
