@JDB was it easy to claim for the iPad screen? I need to do similar

Yes, very easy. It helps if you dig out the policy number Curve will have sent you so they have all your details and will confirm that you are covered and send the claim form which I received almost immediately. If you then go to Apple, they will provide you with the diagnosis and proposed solution (which is a replacement as they can’t just replace the screen) in a document suitable for Axa. You need that plus receipt for the work and ideally the original receipt or at least some proof of ownership. I sent all the docs they asked for with the completed form and was paid within 10 days.

    Thanks that’s really helpful.

When you say “receipt for the work” do you mean “receipt for the replacement” given the earlier comment around the proposed solution?

I suppose the question might be about a like for like replacement given that mine is a mini 4 which they no longer sell

Apple have stocks of old models some brand new, some reconditioned, for this purpose, but if they don’t have your one they will give you a newer model. The document is like a diagnosis which will say ‘beyond repair’ or similar and a quote for replacement, then you will obviously get a cash receipt when you pay.

I take it we’ve come to the official end of unfronted tax free childcare payments. This hasn’t worked for a bit now. It was good while it lasted!

Anyone tried to add Amex to paypal on Curve following the email this morning? I just keep getting invalid card number and it will only let me put in a 3 digit CVC (not the 4 digits for an Amex)

    What email?

Anyone managed to get a refund from Curve for the changes? I paid for Metal subscription in early August but I feel like I have been fobbed off by these changes, and would like to cancel after the changes kicked in.

    @JDB
If Curve doesn’t feel like refunding, what do you think the view FOS will take on the matter? When I renewed my Metal subscription, I entered into an annual subscription with Curve on an assumption that the offering will remain the same, but with these changes I feel like I have been punched in the stomach. Is it worth approaching FOS in case Curve doesn’t agree for a pro-rata refund?

I think Curve will probably offer you something as a gesture, particularly if you have only very recently signed up, but on something like this I don’t think the FOS would say much. What are you suggesting the actual loss to you is of them changing the terms? You get a reduced rate for an annual subscription, so if you wanted a pro-rata refund they could legitimately charge you the monthly rate up to the date of cancellation and maybe something for the metal card. Firms are entitled to and do change terms within 12 month contracts, but with credit cards (which Curve isn’t) they will usually allow you to cancel with a pro-rata refund. What you definitely won’t get is any form of compensation for the opportunities you might claim you have missed.

If you cancel say six months in, the most you will get is about £60 if they don’t charge for the card so not really worth getting too excited about.

Trying to think if there is any benefit to using PayPal funded by barclaycard avios card as a go-between for fronted trasactions rather than just using the barclaycard avios within curve for the fronted transactions? Equally, is there any drawback to doing so? If, for example I used PayPal funded by barclaycard avios via curve fronted to pay HMRC, does this breach PayPal’s Ts&Cs in any way?

To benefit from curve metal, they way I see it you need to pay fees on at least 2 cards – potentially 3 if you are paying off Amex and if it not a fee free card.
    1) Curve Metal Annual fees
    2) fees on Virgin or Barclays and such card which has monthly / annual fees.

Unless you are very select few and could double dip with MBNA horizon / Creation cards or similar cards which may not be available to new holders.

Will wait and see next year whether it makes any sense or not, once you cannot use with Curve to pay HMRC for personal / Business taxes due!

how do you mean by double dipping?

Moot issue cos those cards aren’t open to new customers and/or closed

If you have the latest version of Curve then you can add PayPal as you would any other card

Personally I am struggling to see the benefit of why someone would need PayPal on their curve. This is all a real big blow

I can’t see any way of adding PayPal or the new interface. I definitely have the latest app – I’m on Android, might that be why?

I’m on Android and have the new interface. Have you downloaded the latest update from the Google Play Store?

So it is *potentially* a benefit, but it is unclear from the Ts and Cs whether this is legit

Although you can only fund with balance / Paypal / Mastercard, you seem to be able to select a Business Mastercard as your primary funding mechanism. Doesn’t work with CoT (Visa), but does work with e.g. Barclaycard Select (Mastercard). That’s 1% cashback, and means you can theoretically exceed the £1.5k business spend limit by using Paypal (backed by a business Mastercard)

Also there’s a question as to whether Paypal is considered as Fronted. e.g. when you pay HMRC via Curve backed by a debit card, that should not impact your Fronted limit. But what if you pay by Paypal?

That’s because you only use paypal in a particular way. Think for a second of a small business or sole trader who accept paypal as a form of payment. This allows them to directly use their incoming funds as a payment source anywhere that curve card is accepted.

Barclaycard are not happy if you use Curve to pay off the credit card balance (even if Curve is linked to MBNA Horizon) – they send out a letter warning such practice

I’ve never known Barclaycard to accept Curve, even accompanied by a warning letter?

It used to work, I can’t remember when, possibly in 2020? I did it a few times then it stopped being accepted and I received a letter from Barclaycard advising me that they would not accept it as a valid debit card.

Definitely hasn’t worked for more than a year I would say if not more. Seems like Amex might be heading that way too. That’s pretty much one of not many value propositions Curve still has over other FinTechs so interesting to see how it plays out.

£58 milllion additional funding ( series c for curve) must be conditional upon curve reducing fronted allowance!!
