Forums Payment cards Other payment cards Curve changes from November 10th

If they change their terms and conditions, they can’t surely think they can not pro rata refund for free if people want to cancel.

As with everything Curve, it’s a little complicated! It’s not a credit card and they aren’t changing the terms themselves, but they are going to change the incorporated Subscription Schedule with the requisite two months notice. Those who pay the Metal fee monthly need to give a month’s notice and can therefore cancel without cost prior to the implementation of the new terms. Those who pay annually have agreed to trade a c.£30 saving for sacrificing their cancellation rights; whether that’s fair or not, I don’t know. If Curve were to offer a pro-rata refund, the best that could be hoped for is for them to charge the period used at the rate of £14.99/month plus the cancellation fee, so life may be a bit short to chase those last few £ and there are still benefits.

That literally makes metal the biggest waste of time. It was never going to continue forever, but it does feel like an abrupt halt.

Cant even access their new insurance terms. I am a metal holder for a couple years now and even though I havent had to use it, it included gadgets inc laptops and now I believe its just mobiles and other small items.

in terms of GBIT, looking to GBIT Hilton to a new provider, wonder if I still have time to sign up and get the needful done.

It looks like ATM has gone up from £200/month to £1000/month?

    Am I reading that right?

    If so…

[£3000/month fronted] + [£1000 ATM withdrawal] + [charged to a underlying card earning 1.5 miles per £] = 6000 air miles per month for £17.99

So essentially buying 6000 miles a month for 0.3p per mile?

Massive reduction in benefit, but still sounds worth it?

That’s the assumption that the underlying card is free to run.

… as there is no 1.5miles/£ card in the market afaik..

but the premium cards come with some vouchers which make them a bit more reasonable for this calculation.

PS: last + sign should be x.

I can’t imagine withdrawing £1k/month cash from say a Barclaycard Avios CC through Curve would result in your account staying open for long.

Looks like quite a few downgrades to the plans from November 10th, including a £3k/m limit for fronted on Metal and a price increase.

Thanks for sharing. Off to pay my HMRC bill pronto. Irritatingly OH doesn’t usually get the information she needs for hers for a couple of months.

You can pay HMRC in advance. If you overpay you get the change back. HMRC also pays interest at a very generous rate on credit balances.

I am hugely in credit at the moment because I just shove money off to HMRC as it comes in rather than get hit with a huge bill down the line.

What is the original source for this document? I am not aware of what “buttercms” is so am unsure as to how this can be treated as an official announcement from Curve.

Their list of early repayment interest rates just mentioned corporation tax. I don’t see income tax in the list for early credit.

Curve Fronted was never free for Curve Black… but… new T/Cs

“Fee-free limit of £1,000 per rolling 30-day period then 2.5% of the transaction amount.”

    This is an improvement, no?

No mention of legacy black so I assume no changes?

Nothing on the website yet to indicate a change is coming. But it does look legit. Surely not another Monarch-style fake?

Then wait for an official announcement before you take any action…? 🤷‍♂️

    Hmmm…

Looks like they’re removing the fee-free FX completely for Curve Standard?

Not used it for foreign transactions while Chase offer 1% cashback but this product is starting to look as dead as a dodo!

In 5 years of having a curve account,I only used it on 2 occasions:

When I went to Greece in 2019 (before opening a revolut account) and 3 months ago, when I used it to purchase an item on argos to get the cashback (which landed 3 months late).

Looks like its the end of the road for me, if its true they’re removing free fx on the standard plan

I don’t know about £1000 but I’ve been doing £200 a month since curve started (sometimes outside the UK, so it comes in odd amounts like £198.84). Occasionally the cash withdrawal is the only spend on the Hilton card that month too.

Anyway since they introduced the 2.5% fee for non-UK cards, it was only a matter of time. It was still worth it to pay £1.99 for Curve X, but that ended after 12 months.

The only thing I use curve for now is the occasional offer for example there was a 10% off IHG on several cards including curve so I was able to double dip (I mean by doing two spends, not getting it twice on the same transaction).

    Have Curve already made changes?

My last payment on the 20th of August went through fine but today Curve declined it and it said it requires Fronted.

    Payment to what?
Also, this document doesn’t indicate any changes to what is Fronted or not.

It was fun while it lasted! £30k more to go until then. Will keep until it renews next year.

+1. I make good use of it, but not rinsing. Will be sure however to make the most of the remaining months.

They must be anticipating a lot of lost subscribers, guess they are hoping that there are some profitable ones for them who stay.

I recall only 600 is the limit for metal users

Interestingly enough I never get any big announcement comms. but i do get useless marketing emails from them

    CMS = content management system

Has there been any change on the insurance side, I cant redownload their new terms. I recall it used to include gadgets such as laptops but now it doesnt?

I wonder if/how this is related to the announcement hinted in the latest iOS app

    Curve 2.0
It’s in flight… but there’s only a few passengers on board. We’re rolling this one out slowly to make sure it’s in good shape before we go live to everyone.

    Major new integration
We’re taking “all your cards in one” to a whole new level. Sorry for the cryptic clue – we’ve been sworn to secrecy, but the gag order will be lifted next week. Hopefully.

Could this be about Amex and could it be that they are behind the major cut to Fronted in order to allow Curve back on board?
