Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Executive Club Delayed Flight and missed connection

  • Lynda 6 posts

My son was on BA1587/AA728 which arrived into LHR at 13.18 today. It should have arrived at 11.05, it was delayed in Philadelphia due to technical issues, they then sat for about an hour after landing before the door was opened so he missed his connection to Edinburgh. BA had no seats left to Edinburgh today so rather than wait until tomorrow he is now in Luton and will fly up tonight with EasyJet. Can he claim for the flight from Philadelphia ? He should have arrived back in Edinburgh at 16.45. I am sure I read somewhere that you can find out when the door was opened but can’t remember where. Any help would be most appreciated.

    UK261 doesn’t apply to AA.

Thanks. I thought it did if it had a BA flight number in ticket and was booked through BA.

As above, the flight was operated by American Airlines (and the BA codeshare doesn’t change anything) so the door opening time is irrelevant. You son can write to AA and ask them to reimburse him for any net additional costs incurred after you have checked with the ticket issuer to see if any refund is due for the unused LHR-EDI flight.

Was a train to EDI not an option (very possibly not, with it being a Sunday)?

Travel insurance? Should have delay insurance included in most if not all policies.

Last Sunday train from Kings Cross is around 19.30 give or take a few minutes,

BA do have a deal with LNER which is cheaper for them than passengers paying and claiming back.

However (and not a criticism of anyone) a lot of people don’t always think about trains as an alternative to the plane which can mean they actually take longer to get home by waiting.

Thank you for info JDB and Richie. I didn’t realise that. Anna, I thought a train would be better but he is at Luton now and flying up with EasyJet.

BA can rebook to LNER as well
