Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Executive Club Different MCT for reward flights?

Weird (to me) situation that I hope someone can help with:

I’m looking at a flight from A, connecting through B, ending at C.

BA website is showing Avios availability on A-B and on B-C.

But BA website is not offering A-B-C for Avios. When I ask for A-C it insists on me taking the early morning A-B or the late night B-C and having a long connection.

Which seems like a MCT issue. Except that the routing I want is available for cash! The connection time is 40 mins which is the exact MCT for this route at this airport.

Is this normal – to have a flight that can be bought for cash, and that has Avios seats on each leg, but that can’t be bought for Avios? Is there any way around it? I tried phoning EC but first operator told me I should just book them separately and I’d still be covered through to C if there’s a delay (!) and second one told me it’s impossible because Avios has a 90 minute MCT at all airports (!)

What is the routing, exactly, and on which airline?

Have you tried using “stopover” to split up the 2 legs?

I don’t want to share the exact route, because competition, but it’s all on a oneworld partner, through one of that partner’s bases, ending in LON. Each of the 2 legs I want shows up as a leg in the Avios search, but always combined with the other leg being separated by a long connection – it’s not putting the 2 of them together with the short connection time.

What do you mean by “using stopover”?

Yes this is normal and due to married segments.

But I won’t say more because of “competition”.

Whatever, but you’re more likely to get helpful answers if you give more information! Anyone looking to book the same route has the same access to the seats as you do.

You think someone is gonna book your route for unknown dates so you won’t give details?

    How odd.

It will be married segment logic and not MCT.

Quality customer service there, they’re both seriously wrong.

On separate bookings they wont even check your luggage through never mind protect you from a misconnect, and the MCT statement is just absurb.

I think I have seen this issue with JAL on BA’s site. For instance, numerous PVG-HND and HND-OKA reward flights are available daily, but nothing shows if I search PVG-OKA (despite being able to book PVG-HND-OKA for cash via JAL).

Is this a married-segment issue for Avios flights and what does that even mean?

It’s Finnair. Various small airports in Finland, connecting through HEL, to LHR. Any way to get the two segments to marry?

No, forced marriage isn’t permissible, even in this context.
