Got platinum last year, used dining credit and HN credit, both of which went into statement after a few days. Used them both again in the new year. HN credit appeared after a day, but restaurant credit still not there after more than two weeks. Spoke to Amex, they said it would be with me within 6 months!
If I cancel my platinum card now, will I be giving up the dining credit?
I think you will loose it.
Which restaurant did you go to? Just checking as I want to fly close to the wire.
When you said you ‘spoke’ to amex did you really mean on the phone or on chat. I would recommend if via chat that you call them and reach the Brighton office, tend to be more helpful that way.
It was Som Saa in London, I used this for the first one as well, and the credit was quick. I used the app chat to speak to them, maybe will try phone.
Called Amex this afternoon. They said that the credit was in their system to be done, but they hadn’t gotten round to it yet. I have to wait 30 days from the purchase before they will escalate.
Not cancelling my card, I do have echo the slow credit recently. Used both of my local and aboard dinning credit early this month but not showing on statement yet.
Used Uk credit in The Ivy on 20 Jan and the credit landed on 26 Jan. I had expected it to take longer
I used my credit in The Ivy exactly a week ago. Had the email confirmation that I had used it but no sign yet of it landing. Bit of a pain really as I’m going to cancel the card as soon as the credit is in.
I used to my platinum card (which I’ve had a while) abroad and the credit was applied within a few days.
A family member who took out the card for the new offer used there uk, overseas, and HN credit around 15th December and it was applied 15th Jan.Contacted Amex today asking where my credit was after using it 9 days ago. They stated should appear within 30 days but can take 150 days and nothing they could do to speed it up as it’s an automated process. Now what if, with the possible ending of pro rata refunds ending on 29th Feb, they stop paying out until after this date, which means it would be pointless cancelling the card. As I have used the Local dining credit, they would not be out of pocket.
Would they be that devious or is it just sour grapes by me as I want to cancel the card when the credit has landed.
Wouldn’t it be possible to downgrade to keep the account alive while waiting for the credit to post?

@windym – there’s nobody at Amex sitting there trying to deprive you of your credit. It’s an automated process that happens when it happens or can fail, something they won’t correct until the end of the waiting period, now extended to 150 days. Equally, they aren’t going to pander to churners by accelerating your credit. Not cancelling my card, I do have echo the slow credit recently. @donlee – might be worth checking with AMEX. I used it at Jaguar Sun in Miami on January 20th, contacted AMEX via chat yesterday as still no credit. The transaction came through with a different address (La Familia Katanoh, Pizza, Katonah, NY 10536). Thankfully I’d kept the receipt showing the restaurant address in Miami which matches the one in the participating locations link for the offer. I have submitted it via upload facility and am waiting for it to be reviewed. Not cancelling my card, I do have echo the slow credit recently. You don’t know the individual circumstances of the cardholder.
It is tardy to not pay the credit promptly and it by no means illustrates the cardholder is a ‘churner’ just because they want the credit and to close the card.
Like me, perhaps they are finding no value in the Harvey Nicholls credit or travel insurance. I live at the end of England and there is nothing down here to use. It used to give value and it no longer does. Having had it for x years and no longer needing it, doesn’t make me a churner.
Circumstances change. Closing a card doesn’t make you a churner.
@marshy11 – you write a long post criticising me based on the the premise that I “don’t know the individual circumstances of the cardholder” when that person has told us when they applied, when they got a retention (only the 35k variant) and that they are now impatient to cancel.
You also posit that “it is tardy to not pay the credit promptly” which doesn’t entirely make sense anyway and in this case it is still well inside the timeline of the terms.
More forum drama about nothing! The offer is part of T&C therefore if used prior to cancellation it will complete after cancellation where necessary. In the same way, should anyone try to pull a fast one on say HN by returning an item after card cancellation for a refund then they should (rightly) expect this to catch up with them.

Alas, T&C state the card needs to be current to get the refund. No card, no refund (confirmed by Amex).
I’m not churning. I renewed the card back in October and would have kept it if the travel insurance didn’t require payment via the card for full coverage. Having recently booked a hotel, using the Amex to pay would have cost over £500 in FX fees. Obviously I need a comprehensive travel policy so have paid for one. The figures don’t add up for me.
Back onto the topic, the credit still has yet to appear 16 days after using it. Last year I used the dining credit home and abroad and both times the credit appeared in my account within 5 days.
